Great hotel near the beach
We were there for 5 days from 10th to 14th of september 2005. This hotel is perfect for a Barcelona stay if you like to go to the beach as well.
Unique Quality: Modern beautiful rooms with very comfortable bathrooms - beautiful! It was 90 Euros per room for 2 persons, but breakfast is NOT included. So you'll have to pay another 12 Euros per breakfast, but it's worth to take it... there is everything you like!!!
There is a spa area, but the weather was so fine, I preferred the beach, which is very close and especially clean and beautiful.

Modern Hotel, Near the Sea
The hotel is very comfortable, very modern. It's right across from Marbella Beach, not too bad a walk to the other sea attractions. It's probably not for everyone-its not exactly in the city center, but I was happy there.
Unique Quality: The hotel has a spa, including a steam room and jacuzzi...just the thing after a hard day's touring. Maybe the best thing, though, was the free cyber cafe in the bar. It was so great to send emails home and to friends, and to check football scores (allright, especially to check football scores!)
Also, the views are terrific-either the city on one side (my room-my first real look at Barcelona), or the sea on the other side. I hope my pic does the view justice.

it is an excellent hotel
there are 191 rooms in the hotel. they've got a fairly big lobby, bar on the left with free internet facility, resturant on the right. when you go inside the room, you will free very good because it seems everything new. room has air-conditioning that you wont feel hot in the summer, safe which you can put your own stuff in a safty way, a fridge that you can put some drink you bought outside. (that's what i did).
staffs work there are very helpful. for example, i wanna go to an outlet called "La Roca Village" and i dont know how to go. he help me to seach and gave me some informaion. also, they've got a luggage room for guess to left their luggage in that room. i did it on the last day after i check out. you will be given a stickers to get your luggage when you leave.
the resturant there is nice and the food is quite good. price is about EUR 35-50 per person for a whole meal.
Unique Quality: it is right opposite side of the beach. you can simply walk there in 5 minutes. most of the room is face to the beach.

HI
am going to barcelona in february and found 2 hotels
one is near the sea called barcelo hotel atenea mar
and the other is on top of the railway station barcelo sants
realy not sure which one to go for and wondered if i went for the sea one would i be ok for public transport.
Has any one been to any of these hotels or can they reccomend a reasonable one.
I am studying spanish so really looking forward to this trip

Although Sants is well served forpublic transport, it is a dreary area, devoid of nice bars and restaurans, etc.
Where exactly is the other hotel?

I have looked up the Atenea Mar and it seems to be well out of the city. It is 4 star and therefore quite expensive.
If you are happy to pay such prices then I suggest you look for hotels in the area called Eixample.
This is the classiest (and safest) area of Barcelona.
It has shops, restuarants, cafes to rival Paris.
If you want cheaper, but still good, let me know.

i have had a recomonadation from a person who lives in Barcelona the hotel gran ducat , it seems a nice hotel. The atenea mar was one of the cheapest ones i looked at it was around £65 to £70 per night for a room only (double)
i must have been looking on the wrong sites

Hi!!
Have you already decided the hotel are you going? Between the both you say, I'd choose Barcelo Sants, it's a very well located hotel, I know it. But if you prefer to be on the heart of the city, look for one of the many hotels there are in Eixample area, most of them are quite beautiful and offer good accomodation with a good prize.
I can assure you that in Barcelona 3* hotels are very good hotels.
I hope you enjoy Barcelona, I live in and enjoy it every day!!

I stayed at the Barcelo Sants this july / august. Its a GREAT hotel. the location is very very good, because you are just above the main station and you got
1) the tourist office
2) train station (surprise!)
3) metro
4) tourist and other busses from right outside the station
5) nice, cheap eating places at the station....
6) internet cafe / access
7) the hotel has a scrumptious breakfast buffet too
If you are going to be there for a longer time, a friend of mine has an apartment there just off the diagonal, in a great student neighbourhood. it is a small apartment, with a bedroom, kitchenette and a living room and dining room. the kitchenette is euiqpped with a stove, fridge and gas some utensils also. enough for 1-2 people.
We stayed there also.
