a Catalan tradition...

I'd heard about these Castellers, but it was total serendipity that I happened upon them that Sunday afternoon...maybe you will be as lucky to catch their balancing act as well...there are major competitions for these teams of young people, they come from all over the region to try and out-*tower* each other...
Pinxtos
by Winksc
Pinxtos are Catalan and not Spanish. Thay are little bits of bread with any number of toppins like salmon mousse and prawn, spicy sausage, ham and cheese, cream cheese and date. A good place to eat is La Lizarran, where we tried more than 30 different types.
Packing List
by francismir
Bring a bag that is easy to tote around. A backpack would be a great thing but sling it in front of you so that you can watch out for pickpockets. In this bag you can put your cameras and stuff like that. Just good comfortable shoes and lose clothes in the summer. Warm coats on the winter but not too heavy coz Barcelona is best seen walking. Nothing much. Stock up on film if you're coming from the Philippines coz its rather expensive here. A map of the metro and a street map are indispensible for the first time traveller. The streets can be absolutely confusing at times. If you have a Palm Pilot i suggest getting TomTom City Maps, a truly impressive program that allows you to plot your route. Even better if you have a GPS system attached to it. The Metro Guide is also available for the Palm so you can download it too.

by mindcrime about CDCROME
On calle Tallers there are some cd stores where you can find cd/lps/dvds. There are some more on side streets, most of them small and focused on a specific style (ethnic, rock, jazz etc).
I checked CDDROME that has a lot of vinyls, mainly experimental, electro, new wave disco, minimal and only a few indie rock. The owner didn’t even say goodmorning, something that surprised me because usually the Spanish people are welcoming…
