BEWARE - These guys don't refund/cheat

Hello, Please BEWARE of this place. They're supposed to give full refund if you cancel 3 days before your trip. But I was not refunded in spite of cancelling 5 days before check-in and countless emails and phone calls over the past 6 months.

Staff is rude on the phone. They know i can't do anything since I'm not there. What can I do if I'm not in Spain? Had I been in America, I could have registered a case against them for cheating.

coming to Barcelona on May

by mmshimel

Hi,

I am going to attend a conference in Barcelona next month for seven days. It will be in

Novotel Barcelona Sant Joan Despi
Carrer de la TV3, 2
08970 Sant Joan Despi
Spain

My family, i.e. my (pregnant) wife and my daughter (20 months old) also accompany me. I have booked following hotel considering that it would be not far away from conference place.

Hesperia Sant Joan Suites,
Josep Trueba, 2
08970 Sant Joan Despí
Spanien

However, in recent days when i am looking some reviews on this hotel in VT, I am really confused. "The darkest spot for Barcelona", "Dirty. Avoid it.", "Excellent value hotel...shame it's not closer to the City", etc. I wonder should i change the booking?

It would be nice if someone can give some recommendations on good and inexpensive hotel (less than 60 euro per day for a double room) in Barcelona, So that it would be not that far away from my conference venue, and as well my family can enjoy the real life of Barcelona...

Thanks in advance.

Hola!

Sant Joan Despí is a town near Barcelona, about 15 Km away from Barcelona's centre and areas of interest. Besides, the conference's hotel is on a business/industrial area, with anything of interest nearby. You can use the "street view" facility on Google Maps to see how the area looks like. It's basically roads and office/hotels buildings. Not a nice area to walk around, not because it's unsafe, it's just boring.

I can't give you any hotel names (never used a hotel in Barcelona, I live here ;)) but the closest and more convenient area you can stay in Barcelona's "Zona Universiatria" of the Av. Diagonal, near "Maria Cristina" metro stop. It's a very nice area and safe area. You can use the tram (T3 line) to the conference (it will take you about 20 min I guess) and your family can easily explore the city centre using metro (line 3- green) and buses.

However, less than 60€ per a double room in Barcelona is not easy to find, and probably even more difficult on that area.

Or, if you do not mind a longer trip to the conference centre, you can stay anywhere near a stop of the metro 3 line. You'll have to change to tram at "Maria Cristina" and the total trip may take 45 min - 1 hour.

As well, you may look for "hostal" (in Spain this mean a basic, usually family-run small hotel, some really nice).

Hope this helps. Best of luck!

Ops, it looks I was typing at the same time as nikhil_john06!

I will not have concerns about the Hesperia Sant Joan Suites hotel on itself, I used Hesperia hotels many times and never had a complaint. It's the location what would worry me. I would not mind staying there for a conference if traveling alone, assuming I'll be doing long trips to/from the city centre after the meetings. But it's not a convenient location for your pregnant wife and little daughter if they want to see a bit of Barcelona on that trip.

I think Belsaita's recommendations are good; I would agree. I have a few thought to add (as always). Basically the choice is whether you want to commute longer in the morning or you want your family to. Since you are going to be there for 7 days, I'd pick a hotel closer to the city center. If your wife wants to sightsee during the day, being closer or in the center is a big plus. I know from experience that small children get tired of being out all day and need to go back to the hotel to rest. It is easier if your hotel is in the center so you can go back for a few hours then go out again later. Also, being in the center where there are nice restaurants and cafes nearby will be better for them. It will make it more convenient to go out at night too.

The only hitch is finding it for the price you want in the city center. Good luck. Have a great stay.

Travel Tips for Barcelona

Familia Sagrada

by biker7

This amazing bit of architecture will blow your mind - I`ve never seen anything quite like it.

It was designed by Gaudi and is still being finished - everything about it seem so delicate and interwoven. Went to see a Barcelona game at the Neu Camp (they beat Bolagna 2 - 0). The sight of a packed stadium filled with enthusiastic fans of both sides without a hint of trouble was excellent.

The stadium is awesome and well laid out and I had a great view. Some Barca fans helped me out with spanish translations and then went out for some beers with me afterwards.

The south end of La Rambla...

by Pegasus74

The south end of La Rambla stands the majestic Columbus Monument overlooking the World Trade Center. The large pier has been transformed into a huge pedestrian area which incorporates yachting basin and clubs with outdoor cafes, bar restaurants and retail stores. The nearby Imax Theatre and L'Aquarium simply add to the attractiveness of the modern south. The waterfront is surely a lovely place to see the crowds and enjoy the sun. Even the sea gulls realize that.

Here kitty kitty!

by seamandrew

I was a bit shocked to see this in such a large city, but there were countless stray cats roaming the city. Especially near Montju?c and Palau Nacional. They're all so cute, but you can't help feel bad for these little creatures. I'm not sure if this large stray population can be attributed to negligence on behalf of the city's government or just an uncontrollable problem.

This little kitty was minding its own business, answering a call to mother nature, when all of a sudden it realized it was also posing for VT'ers all around the world!

Spanish Village

by viddra

Spanish Village is in fact an open-air museum of some 136 reproduction buildings from different regions of Spain. It was built in 1929 for the World Exhibition.

So if you'd like to see Spain in one place, this is it!

This is also a place where you can see how some glass figurines are made.
