Parc Guell
by surferob
All the way across town towards Tibidabo is lovely Parc Guell. Designed by Gaudi (who else), it's a surprisingly intimate and peaceful retreat from the city. A great place to take a walk or go for a jog maybe. It's up on a hill so of course you get the view of the city. You can also take the opportunity to sit on the "longest continuous bench in the world", and it is pretty damn long. It incorporates a kind of tile mosaic thing and was designed by......what's his name.........oh yea, Gaudi.
Best way to get there is by bus, consult the transportation map. One unexpected thing happened here that I'll not forget. We came across an excellent classical guitarist performing for tourists, although there were very few around. I asked him to play a piece that I've always liked, a rather famous (and perhaps somewhat cliche) piece called Austurias, by Spaniard Isaac Albeniz. I've always loved it. His reply, "Sure, my pleasure". And so my friend and I were treated to a kind of private performance by a true musician.....that doesn't happen every day.

If you wear size S or Petit, and want to keep it, then just keep going and don't get in, but if you got some sence and good taste then you must get into thas Cocolate shop from the Antonio Escriba chain stores of Chocolate.
Some amazing chocolate they create over there, and its makes you feel like buying every little thing they have.

Diagonal Has Hidden Treasures!
by mikey_e
Visitors often treat Avinguda Diagonal as a sort of wonder of urban planning that doesn't merit much attention. Not true!!! If you walk along the Diagonal through the Eixample (walk from about Monsèn Verdaguer towards the Esquerra) you can find all sorts of statues, fountains and architectural wonders that are not on a tourist guide map. Some of the sculpture pictures are below.
Convent de Santa Caterina
by Joacim
The remains of the convent is to be found under the Santa Caterina Market. When the excavations carried out beneath the Market it revealed the archaeological remains of the former Convent dels Predicadors (Convent of the Preachers), which was later renamed the Convent de Santa Caterina.
Other religious buildings and a late-Roman necropolis were also unearthed, the latter containing amphora, tegulae and formae tombs (made with building materials). Part of the site has been preserved and is open to visitors. Plans are underway to create a visitor centre to provide key information about the site and its evolution from prehistoric times until it became a market.
