GO TO TRAVEL BAR, Calle...

GO TO TRAVEL BAR, Calle Boquería, 27. Great internet café, travellers meeting point. Really friendly and helpful.. whatever your query and I had a few! Went on their walking tour - fascinating and fun, wasn't bored for a second. And then did the bar crawl... finally I got off the dodgy Ramblas and saw the real Barcelona. 6 top bars, a drink in every one and then FREE entrance to a club. Bargain and such a laugh. Generally, the feeling that anything goes. The freedom you have when all around you are having fun and you can do what the hell you like. Very liberating city!

There are many view points from where you can get an excellent overview of the city: Montjuic, the Tibidabo and the Park Güell are the most famous ones. The latter is specially popular among tourists and another famous work by the omnipresent Antoni Gaudí. You can see more pictures in the travelogue.

1 lb flour
3/4 lb sugar
3/4 lb marzipan
1 cup milk
1/3 lb of thickening agent
1/3 lb almonds toasted
Lemon rind, grated
A little cinnamon
The marzipan is made in the traditional way, mixing the egg whites, almonds and icing sugar. Next mix the flour with the sugar, add the milk and the marzipan. Knead with the hands and gradually add the thickening agent, the almonds, the grated rind and cinnamon.
Roll out the dough mixture on greaseproof paper on a baking tray, and place in the oven at 150ºC for about 15 minutes. Then remove and cut the mixture into strips two centimetres wide, glaze with the egg yolk and return to the oven until it turns golden.

Well, actually this is not really off the beaten path, because it is a tip in our guide book, but we thought, that it was a little out of the way...
This very old church has a wonderful cloister - it seems like an oasis within the hussle and buzzle of the city.
Entrance fee to the cloister is 1 € - more or less a donation type thing, plus you get a nice description of what to see!
