Hello,
I'll be travelling on mid September to a conference in the Palau de Congresos. Can anybody please advise on the hotel above. I liked the idea that it is located on a residential area (Tres Torres), I am anative Spanish speaker and would like to be more in areas frequented by locals than tourists. (Yes I know catalan is the the principal language).
Also what can you tell me about the Tres Torres area.
Regards,
Gerardo
I don't know about this hotel. But Tres Torres is absolutely not a tourist area, heh. It's a high standing area, so you'll find a few "beautiful locals" there. Furthermore is not a central area, so you will take some transportation to get to the centre to visit something, if u want. In the area there arent metro, just FFCC (a kind of local train, it works like a metro), in the station called also Tres Torres.
Enjoy your conference, and the city =)

Probably the catalan tradition with more success and recognized internationally. Build human towers is based on three
principles: force, balance and common sense. It's very exciting to see this one spectacle in the squares.
If you have never seen the astonishing castells, there is a chance to see them live during all the year in many places of Catalunya.
The season begins in February and finishes in November. The most important shows are in Vilafranca del Penedès (august), Tarragona and Barcelona (september), Valls (october) and Terrassa (november).
If you have any doubt about the way they are made, please don’t be affread to ask anyone in the square. Please, keep your glass off if it happens that you are invited to place yourself on the basis to give a hand.
My daughter Jacki and I attended the 2008 F1 Grand Prix as guests of the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team. Our short stay in the beautiful city of Barcelona saw us rubbing shoulders with the likes of Lewis Hamilton and got us behind the scenes to the "paddock" where the teams set up their headquarters for the event.
It is mind boggling to see the amount of behind the scenes work that goes into an event of this nature. Ear plugs ear plugs and more ear plugs. Its LOUD man!
Take a train to Girona (where I lived an worked) to escape the crowds. Hike up to the Cathedral and rent a room at the Pensione you'lind if you walk out the left (when looking at the front) side entrance of the Cathedral. Visit the surrounding areas of the Baix Emporda and the Alt Emporda with stops in L'Estartit, Banyoles, Torroella di Montgri, Ulla, Verges, La Tallada and - of course - the Val' Sant Daniel
Many of us may like to buy a small piece of jewelry as souvenir when visiting new places. Or bringing something to the special ones... If you prefer wearing something "unique" yet affordable, here some suggestions:
- Elisa Brunells (stunning, unique pieces from a local designer)
(2 shops in town, in Gracia and El Born, see details at her website)
I do have a ring from her that is the center of attention every time I wear it! :-)
- Lovely pieces from a designer based in Formentera at Enric Majoral, shop at Consell de Cent, 308 (between Rambla de Cataunya - Pg. De Gràcia)
- Or, even easier to find, as there are a few shop scattered around town, with great designs (local and foreign designers, but always small editions):
Ona Joia
The most central "Ona" will be the shop in El Bulevard Rosa, shop number 20 (small shopping centre near Passeig de Gracia metro station)
