flamenco in barcelona

by umitunal

Could anyone suggest a place (club) to see a flamenco show in barcelona? Is it a good idea to see a flamenco show in barcelona or in madrid? we'll also travel to madrid. I f there are some nice places you know and can suggest I'm waiting for your replies. Could you also give me some info. about the time and price of them if you know?
Another thing I need to clarify is that: If we go to Girona by bus/train is it easy to find buses / trains that go to Figueras from there? are there timetables we could see well? If we want to visit the Dali museum do we most probably wait for a long time in the queue to get in? Thanks...

Flamenco is a style coming from Andalusia first and foremost, and although other regions have contributed to it, Flamenco is neither really at home in Barcelona nor Madrid.
Changes are that you'll see some Flamenco performances in both cities, be it only to entertain tourists.

To my knowledge, there are both, trains and buses, from Girona to Figueres.

Flamenco has nothing to do with Catalan Culture.
So you can find some show in La Rambla, and you can even buy a flamenco dress, but it is only for tourists (that means expensive & bad quality).

It's your decision, but there a lot of more interesting things to do in Barcelona. Don't waste your time!

Travel Tips for Barcelona

Savoring the Pyrenees from Barcelona

by tomhb2

A visit to the Vall de Boi is a wonderful excursion from Barcelona. Although it can be done in a long day, 2 or 3 days is better if you have the time. The valley is on the west side of the National Park of Aiguestortes and Estany of Sant Maurici. In the valley are several small towns linked by hiking trails. You can explore wonderful 12th century churches and see evidence of the Romans who settled the valley in the first century. In the summertime there are many concerts dances, and other festive events.

A 19th century spa offers luxury accommodation, but I prefer the Hostal Pascual, a centrally located family-run pension which provides nice rooms in a woodsy setting with excellent meals and very reasonable prices.

You can take a taxi into the national park and spend the day walking the trails from easy strolls to challenging hikes, and spend a night in a mountain refuge if you choose.

Vall de boi is a charming place which offers something for every taste. My fondest memory of Barcelona is spending at night in the Parador de Cardona, located a short drive outside of Barcelona. It is a 9th century castle on a hilltop converted into a luxury hotel. The rates are very reasonable for the chance to live and dine like a king.

Palau Nacional Area

by 36waterfalls

Another memory I hold dear was discovering the area from Plaça Espanya uphill to Palau Nacional on one of my evening strolls.
Meaning to visit the fountain, because of road closure I had to go round the block. Then I found the palace lighted up on the hill....and on my way I found the colored cascades.
I had to climb all the stairs, but it was a great walk.
The reward was a breathtaking view over Barcelona. So worth it!

Feria de Abril

by listenandlearn

Each year and every year Sevilla celebrates “La Feria de Abril", meaning dancing the flamenco, dancing the Seviliana and parties everywhere. These feast last at least for 7 days, day and night feasta. Let´s not forget that during these week we also have the bullfights. Flamenco and bullfighting symbolizes strong cultural traditions in Andalusia (South of Spain) and the April Feria offers a unique insight of the character and the atmosphere of this individual region.

TRIP OUT FROM BARCELONA

But...

TRIP OUT FROM BARCELONA

But a ticket to NURIA from Sants station - you can get one which includes the private rack railway from Ribes de Freser (which is on the Renfe line to Puigcerda) and the cable car on up to the youth hostel and some fine walks. It also says it includes a go at archery and a horse ride - if you really have to.
Try to break your journey at Ripoll and see the old monastery, (photo)
