Anyone for a 'meeting' on 18th July?

by slometa

Hi,
I'll be landing in Barcelona (actually Reus...) on 17th on my way to Camino and will be a shame not to spent at least a day in Barcelona :))).
Is anyone there on Sunday to spent an hour, two, more of relaxed or interesting time together?
Looking forward to hear positive answers :).
btw. can anyone also suggest me a decent budget accommodation in Barcelona? Is it possible :)?
Greetings from Slovenia,
Lana

Hello Meta! I'm glad to see you are still active on VT.

You should post a invitation for a VT meeting in the "events and meetings section".

Ciao!

Hi, Mauricio,
i didn't think of a meeting, just if someone (or more) are willingly for spending time together. Almost spontaneously :).
All best, Lana

Yes Meta, but the best thing to do is post your offer there. As you know posts in the travel section "go down" very fast. New posts will appear here and your post will be hidden under lots of newer posts.

I hope you understand my explanation.

Ciao!

Hi,

I can suggest you a pair of well located places for sleeping in Barcelona. One is the Hostal Grau, is very cheap but quite old, they have rooms and apartments for rent. http://www.hostalgrau.com/php/index.php

The other is the Hotel Banys Orientals, is very beautiful and it's also in the heart of the historic city, but it's also more expensive.

Apart of this, here you have a good website where you can try to find other hotels in Barcelona http://www.skyscanner.es/hotels/
You can ask me if you need help for choosing.

I don't know if I'm going to be available on July 18th, but I'll do my best for meeting you in Barcelona.

Saludos.

Hi, Labrix, I then found Hostal One Sants, which is close to the train station and also at fine price.
Let me know if you have time on Sunday. It would be great.
I will be very flexible :). Spending all day somewhere in Barcelona, maybe Monday too... ;)
Saludos

Travel Tips for Barcelona

History

by tini58de

Barcelona's history is quite fascinating:
The Romans conquered and named the port of Barcino in 133 BC. By the time Charlemagne liberated the city from Moorish invaders in 801, it was called Barcelona. Barcelona flourished in the 12th?14th centuries, when the superb medieval old town area, the Barri Gotic, was founded. (It remains the heart of the city today, packed with shops, restaurants and bars.) In 1474, Catalunya was united with the rest of Spain by the marriage of the 'Catholic Kings', Ferdinand of Aragon and Isabella of Castile. They welcomed the explorer Christopher Columbus back from his first voyage to the New World in Barcelona harbor in 1493.

Smoking in public places

by chancay

As in lots of other countries in the world already smoking is generally forbidden in public places as in restaurants and bars especially. A sign that smoking is forbidden is placed in the doors of the restaurants as you can see it on the photo. But (as far as I was told, and you can see it on special signs) bars or restaurants can also buy the permission to allow smoking at their place. Then you find a similar but green sign at the entrance that allows smoking. Thought I took a photo as well, but can?t find it currently ;-)

by coeur.chaud

I got right into the custom of having a little siesta around 6 pm, having a drink at one of the café/bars which sit at almost every street corner in town before going to eat dinner at 10 pm or 11pm. Around midnight or 1 am the nightlife begins, and that on any givien day of the week. It was something different that I took a lot of enjoyment out of.

The sweetest street with the beautiful tiles

by Joacim

This street (Carrer de Petritxol) located in Barri Gotic, har two different attractions. First it is known as "the sweetest street in Barcelona" with its many shops selling different kind of choclates originating from different parts of Spain.

Second, it has some beautiful tiles with scenes from the every day life in Barcelona during the 19th century.

Fantastic place where both your mouth and eyes can be satisified at the same time!

by duasluas

The Laberint Park is located on the northern part of the city. It helds several atractions such as a big mansion, fountains and beautiful landscapes. I highly recommend to visit this place, especially on wednesdays since the entrance is free.
