My favourite square in the area is the pretty Placa de Ruis I Taulet. The square is lined with interesting bars and cafes, whose tables spill out into the square. In the centre is the lovely Torre del Rellotge (clock tower).Another nice square nearby is the tree-lined Placa de la Virreina. At the northern end of the square you will see the 17th century Esglesia de Sant Joan, which has an unusual (for a church anyway) mosaic-looking name above the entrance door. This pedestrian square is also home to some more cafes.
North of the area, up a steep hill, you will find Park Guell, another Gaudi gem - not just a building, but this time a whole garden and complex. It is a beautiful place to visit and offers some great views back over the city. While you are there pop in and have a look at Casa Museu Gaudi, where the great man himself lived for the last 20 years of his life.
