by johntirrell

What's the weather in Barcelona in early March? Any Where should I stay. Is the weather better in Seville? Is there a good train between the two? Thanks John

No-one can predict the weather so far in advance. Climate tables will give you a rough idea of what you might expect.

Barcelona:

Seville

In March Seville is very slightly warmer, on average, but also wetter.

Due to extreme climatic changes the World is experiencing at the moment, trying to predict the weather can be difficult because of local, on the day variations.
Most places now are seeing weather conditions well outside the norm.
The information below should be used as a guide only.

Here is the average weather for Barcelona for this time of year.
Enjoy your holiday.

March.
High 59f / 15c
Low 44f / 7c
Rain 1.90in / 48.0mm
Rain days 8
Hours of sun 6
Daylight hours 12
UV level 4 = Moderate
Humidity = Frost may occur in March
Sea temp 56f / 13c

I'm pretty sure that, usually, the weather in Seville is much better (warmer)than in Barcelona.
You have two high speed trains (AVE) daily between Barcelona and Seville.

Travel Tips for Barcelona

Pickpockets

by dreamsofeurope

Hello! Welcome to Virtual Tourist!
You are going to love Barcelona!!!! I felt very safe there, it was my first trip to Europe and it was just me and my 2 girlfriends. But yes, everything I read before the trip was talking about the problem of pickpockets. We did not have a problem though. I suggest getting a small pocketbook that goes across your body, and is not easily reached into. (if you're a woman that is) In crowds I just kept my hand on it. For men, they make belts with hidden pockets, or a small bag that you wear under your clothes. You can keep a few euros in your pocket for quick purchases. Take only your essentials out with you and leave the rest @ your hotel, and never carry around your passport, obviously: ) Just be aware of the people around you and you'll be just fine!
As for what to wear...NICE SHOES!! In the street people look at your eyes then at your shoes: ) No sneakers. Almost everyone is dressed VERY nicely. Men in sport coats, leather shoes, and nice jeans... Even the older people are dressed up strolling around the city holding hands, so cute: ) I wouldn't worry about over dressing unless you plan to pack a formal gown: )
Have a wonderful time!! Check out my homepage, I have a few pictures of the city. Feel free to contact me with any questions!

Casa de les Punxes

by irisbe

Casa de les Punxes’ (1904-1906) is a work of Josep Puig i Cadafalch.
You can find it at the corner of Diagonal street 416-420.
It is a private building and not open for public visitors.

It has a nice sundial on one of the walls and also an image of Sant Jordi with the inscription: "Sant Patró de Catalunya torneu-nos la llibertat".
Josep Puig was assisted by other specialist like: Alfons Juyol (sculptures); Eudald Amigó ; Enric Monserda (interior design) and Manuel Ballarín.

At least you can say, that it is a remarkable construction with some Middle Aged influence.

Climate

by tino_world

Barcelona has a relatively mild Mediterranean climate. Summer can get hot and humid, 30C is not uncommon, while winters are very mild and sunny. The rain falls mostly in the autumn and spring months (October, November, March, Abril). The year average temperature is 15,8ºC with an average maximum of 19,4ºC.

Ancient Roman Bricks used in some of the buildings

by dlytle

Roman brick can often be seen in the walls around the cathedral and also as part of the walls of the buildings that stand to each side of the small side streets and byways near the La Ramblas.

The Romans distinguished between those bricks which were merely dried by the sun and air (lateres crudi), and those which were burnt in the kiln (cocti or coctiles). Typically they preferred clay which was either whitish or decidedly red (like the ones I saw in Barcelona).

They considered spring the best time for brick-making, and kept the bricks two years before they were used. They made them principally of three shapes; the Lydian, which was a foot broad, 1-1/2 feet long; the tetradoron, which was four palms square, i.e. 1 foot; and the pentadoron, which was five palms square.
