decent priced and situated

We stayed at hotel Comercio just off La Ramblas towars the habour end - cheap and cheerful but did its job and quite central too

Basic - Cheap - But OK
we stayed at the Comercio hotel in Jaunary - its just one street back from La Ramblas - seafront end and booked through Alpharooms - it was basic but clean and the breakfast was adequate for what we paid - try barca website for tickets otherwise i expect there will be some on sale around the ground on the day ( if you want to risk buying from them - we did in Milan )

Unique Quality: the hotel was on a backstreet off La Ramblas and just for stepping off by 1 street we saved pounds - although most of the places we saw on La Ramblas were better class - we never spend enough time in hotels to bother as long as they are clean and we get some breakfast we are happy - i would recommend this hotel to others looking for a budget place other than a hostel in the La Ramblas area. The staff were all very friendly too

LOCATION/PRICE
We found this hotel by accident when walking through the turbulant Calle de Escedullers (hookers, chickenrestaurant, art gallerys, market). We went in en heard the price was about 5000 ptas (30 euro) for a double room. This was in 1996. In e few years the price was risen to 8000 ptas. Situation now: prices can be found from 80 - 103 euro for a doubleroom. This is more then 11.000 ptas ! So inflation has done her work. This is the reason whe choose another hotel (Toledano) end 2002. Not because its was better, but because this hotel didnt make a profit of the Barcelona tourist boom and the euro introduction.
Beware: some internetbookers mention a price which is 20-30 % higher then the normal hotelprice. So you are advised to call the hotel and ask for the rates.
HOTEL/ROOMS
It's a very basic, but well organised and clean hotel. The color TV, airco and bathroom are OK as wel as the beds. The heating is sufficient and the double window keeps away the streetnoise.

When you go to the right you are in 70 meters on the Placa Reial; to the left you reach the heart of the Bairro Gotico and 100 meter forward you will reach The Ramblas.

CLOSE YOUR EYES HERE AND SLEEP....
This is the TWIN hotel of the Hotel Roma Reial and is situated in the short street that leads from the Plaça Reial to the RAMBLAS on your left hand side.
Unique Quality: This PLAçA de REIAL is so very special because of the wonderful palmtrees that grow there.
They are siad to be the highest in Europe.....

convienent place to stay for one night
My wife and I flying into Barcelona on May 2nd, and we are staying for one night only, then off to Granada. we are looking for a convienent place to stay, for less then 150 euro. By convienent I mean, a place easy to get to from airport, el prattBCN and a place that would be easy to get back to airport for next mornings 11am flight. Convienent also to LA Ramblas area. Thanks for any reply in advance.

I personally would recommend the Hotel Turin, just off Ramblas (Pintor Fortuny, check Google). Good value, modern rooms, central location: 5 mins walk from the airport bus stop at Plaza Cataluna.
