metro

by jackiebelfast

can you get the metro from viladecans to barcelona city centre

Re: metro

by Badger1492

Yes, but not on the Metro. You can take the RENFE R2 Rodalies line from Viladecans to Barcelona and get off at Sants or Pg de Gracia stations. See more info at www.tmb.es. Click on English at the top of the page.

Badger's answer is very complete. I would only add that if you have to go and come several times it would be useful to buy a T-10 card. You have 10 trips and it's cheaper.

Re: eating out

Hi,
I have been there a several times and I can tell that Rambla (in the heart of the city, leads you towards the port)is one of the best places. As an appetizer you can roll on with the constant human flow on this street. When you have enough you just have to sit down, because every restaurant has outer space on the street. I am not telling that those are the best restaurants, but you can enjoy the flow, the "babelian" cacophony from a sitting position. In the Port you can find quality restaurants, but you need luck to find place, even for seven.
Have fun.
I hope I could help a bit.

Hi,
I am sorry. Just realized, you are out of Barcelona. Ignore what I told. I do not know that location.

Re: eating out

jakiebelfast is 15-16 km southwards from Barcelona.. no much to do or eat there.. the best option is catch the train and get to Barcelona.. it will take just 20 min !

Re: eating out

Just bear in mind train frequencies from and to Viladecans are not too good. Gavà or Castelldefels (both next to Viladecans)would be even better.

Also, consider the distance from Viladecans city centre to the train station. It takes you quite a long walk (at least 15min), depending on which area you are.

When in Barcelona, DO NOT eat or drink anything at the Rambla. It is nowadays the biggest tourist-trap in the world.

Believe me, I am native Catalan from Barcelona and have witnessed how the Rambla has been turned into the kingdom of vulgarity since mass tourism appeared after the Olympic Games.

If you are at Viladecans you can take the train and go to Sitges. It is a beautiful place with a good atmosphere.

Totally agree Ramblas boulevar is the worst place for tourist in BCN.. crappiest and most dangerous for them.. there are plenty of better places to go to eat !!

Travel Tips for Barcelona

Barcelona - History finished

by Kuznetsov_Sergey

In 1830-1840 Catalonia becomes the most industrially developed region of Spain. In 1860 city authorities have started re-planning the city. In 1888 there has passed the World's Exibition.
In 1890-1910 in the city there are numerous buildings in style of a catalunian modernism.
In 1929 at the Montjik hill there has passed the World's Exibition. In 1992 Olympic Games took place in Barcelona.

Pa amb tomàquet

by Bigjones

Pa amb tomàquet (bread with tomato) is a delicious Catalan appetiser : rub garlic on bread. Cut a tomato in half and rub it on as well, season with a little salt, then pour olive oil or butter over. Enjoy !

Mountain Biking (& hiking) in/near Catalunya

by DSwede

There are lots of mountains, valleys and beach areas around Barcelona and Catalunya.

The farther you go into the interior the more scenic it becomes in my opinion. For example, once you get to Andorra, there are countless paths taking you into the untouched mountains and lakes.

My best advise is just drop into the shop "Bike House" and begin perusing the good variety of maps that they have for hikers & bikers of the local national parks and mountains. Pick what suits your style and go from there. If you already have your own (like I do) then all you will need is a map and transporation.

If you have nothing, you can buy clothes and bikes from "Bike House". Unfortunately the sign outside the store still says that they rent, but their policies have changed and they no longer do.

They specialize in only mountain bikes (& BMX) and related accessories. (Sorry road bikers will find nothing valuable except clothes and maps).

The bikes and accessories that they have are good quality and reasonably priced. The clothing is also good quality, but in my opinion a bit expensive.

Castel-Fullit Up Close

We stayed at my wife's relative's home which is adorn with paintings like a museum. In the morning, I walked through the village, which includes an updated church. The first view is from the rooftop of the former salami factory, with the tower of the church in the distance.

La Boqueria

by SirRichard about La Boqueria / Markets

This popular food market has some of the best food stands in all Spain. The quality is excellent and the presentation too. OK, you won't buy many fresh food, but anyway, the place deserves a visit, not only for the local ambiance, but also for the architecture of the place and the nice coloured glass.

Spanish writer Vazquez Montalban, known as a gourmet, came here daily to buy fresh products...
