Barcelona Zoo
by Vintom
Barcelona Zoo: Is a small and friendly looking place with a fair amount of animals, which include the Albino Gorilla that is shown on a lot of the postcards and flyers that promote the zoo. Could be a place to take bored children, or yourself if you really have seen everything and have nothing better to do.
A tip about tipping
by scott_doane
I'm sure many people wonder when they go to any new place what is appropriate in terms of tipping. Too much and you're throwing money away, too little and you're the meanest scrooge to walk the planet since, well, Scrooge. Well the answer in Barcelona is that Scrooge is alive and well and living in Catalunya. People hardly tip at all. I'm not saying you should go so far - after all you're on holiday and its nice to be nice. But the locals will leave about 30 cents after a meal in many cases, if anything. The people here are famous for their thriftyness. And their tomato bread (pan con tomates) of course.
Total Football

Where do I start?! What a stadium, and what an atmosphere during the big games. I have been privileged enough catch three games at the Nou Camp, and each one was a truly memorable experience!
First one was FC Barcelona Vs Real Madrid in December 2003. There is a HUGE rivalry between these two sides, and the atmosphere was absolutely electric! It was a brilliant match, and the standard of passing and movement was astonishing. A huge amount of talent, some of the best players in the world, were on show and it will be a long time before I forget it! I was up on the third tier and although it was difficult to distinguish the players from each other from that far away, you could get a great perspective on the tactical movement of the whole pitch.
Second game was in November 2004, a Champions League clash between AC Milan and Barca. AGain the players on show were the elite, and for this one we had really splashed out on tickets, and got some of the best in the house. Although the view was tremendous, ironically I think I preferred the cheap seats for the atmosphere, but I'm glad I did both.
Fresh from the Milan trip on Tuesday, the Saturday saw us watch a La Liga match between Barcelona and Deportivo. Again this was a great game, and we were up in the cheaper seats for this one, a great day out.
A little tip is to try and get there early, savour the atmosphere and experience. They usually put on some sort of pre match show as well!
Outside the Montserrat Basilica
by Jetgirly
The exterior of the basilica at Montserrat is absolutely beautiful. It truly is a mix of the old and new, with Gothic cloisters from the 1300s mixing with towers constructed as recently as the 1930s. You will surely be struck by the beautiful atrium floor, which bears an inscription reading
"Only those baptised and born in the water like fish can understand the meaning of the fish of Eucharist."
I have no idea what that means!
Outside the basilica you will also see the 14th century tombs of Joan of Aragon (not Joan of Ark!) and Bernat de Vilamari.
