Madrid to Barcelona

by unaS

Am looking at the Renfe site for AVE trains from Madrid to Barcelona.
Lot of them, but I don't see where one can buy the discount tickets mentioned here:
http://deals.virtualtourist.com/viewDeal-19497-262020-1--Madrid-viewDeal.html

Anyone have any further information on this?

Una, you can only see the discount prices (when available) once you start the buying process.

If you have your travel dates, buy your tickets ASAP (62 days before your trip), this route is extremely busy, there is a percentage of seats with discount and they do sell out quickly. I heard many companies buy "bunch" of discounted tickets for their employees as soon they are available, besides many individual travelers both for business or leisure who prefer AVE than flying. When are you traveling? A friend on mine told me yesterday she wanted to travel to Madrid in 1.5 months time and there are already no discounted seats

There is a great explanation about using the (surreal) Renfe website here:

best of luck!

WOW! That was one complete and detailed article. Marvelous. Many thanks. I posted a thank you note on line, but please do tell your friend how much it is appreciated too.

www.renfe.es is awful and tricky, for offers and discounts, look for web and star fares

Thanks Santi. Take a look at the link Belsaita gave above. Very detailed and clear instructions.

Yes, I read it some time ago

I'm in Barcelona now and went straight to Estacio Francia to ask. I was told 110 Euros is the cheapest seat on the BCN-MAD one way route on AVE train. Not sure if its the same price from MAD-BCN or if its cheaper booked far in advance.

Re: Madrid to Barcelona

by unaS

Haven't done it yet myself because the date is still too far off, but I'm told that it is 1/2 price if booked on the internet 62 days in advance.

Re: Madrid to Barcelona

110€ is the price without any discount. For this very busy route, usually the only fare available if not booking well in advance (weeks before the trip)

"estrella" fare (40% off): 65.70€, partially changeable/refundable, only available online (and I think over the phone)

"web" fare (40% off): 43.80 € non changeable/partially refundable, only available online between 62-14 days before the trip (but limited number of seats on offer, so for this route is always sold out quickly)

sorry, "web" fare is 60% off :)

Travel Tips for Barcelona

The Old Town or Ciudad Vieja

by hamouras

The Old Town or Ciudad Vieja It is where I used to live as a student. It is a very lively area. While walking in the streets and alleys of the old town you will find a lot of shops and cafes. The buildings are quite old but they make a really nice atmosphere.

Go with some vocab... you'll be glad you did...

by ginettissima

I concur with all the other VT tippers who suggest getting to know some of the local language before going to Barcelona. I don't speak Spanish, but I do speak other Romance languages, and that helped me tremendously just in the sense that I understood most of what was spoken or written. Without that, it would have been hard to manage as not everyone speaks English. Go knowing some words and phrases and Spanish and Catalan.

Packing List

by DanielF

Weather in Barcelona is mild and sunny during the winter, but in summer it can get really hot and humid. In Autumn it is often very rainy. I am sure you will buy a lot of things in Barcelona, so leave enough room in your case or simply buy a new one in Barcelona. This is a picture of the passerelle that connects la Rambla with a shopping mall in the port.

Finca Guell.

by Maurizioago

This estate was built between 1884 and 1887. Gaudì designed the stables and the porter's lodge.

Visits are not permitted, but you can enjoy the wrought iron gate (the dragon!)

Finca Guell is located in Avinguida de Pedralbes, 7. It is not far from the Palau Reial de Pedralbes (see tip).

Popular Mango!

by listenandlearn about Department Stores / Malls

Well here we are at one of the favourite department stores of tourists as well as the locals! I love shopping here at Mango, it´s just the place to try on all those fashionable clothes, so much sale through out the summer. Tops, pants, pocketbooks, skirts, heavy jackets, name any clothing you would need and you would find it in Mango. On a trip or a vist at Mango, specially those people that do not have a Mango store in their country they can spend at least between 300 to 400 Euros. It´s okay as it´s all worth it...
