it seems that your canadian phone do not work in spain
some people tell 2 just change the sims card
i tell her 2 use the blue phones with calling card
but my wife tell me this would be hard 4 my mom
because of all the steps of a calling card

you could buy an ekit simcard... ekit is an international sim card which has different plans available... all of them work but adding credit to them by calling up & using credit card from where ever you are... I used an ekit sim card when I went to Europe (I was in spain also) and it worked fine... there is even a sim card you can get that lets people call you & you dont have to pay for their calls... (they have to ofcourse) but you dont have to... check out ekit - I think the one i had was called passport plus... hope this helps.

Canadian phones do work in Spain. But depending on your service provider, this international feature may have to be activated or turned on by the mobile provider.
If the Canadian phone is unlocked, you may simply insert a local Spanish sim card for very cheap.

Anmother solution is for your Mom to go in to one of the many many Internet centres in Spain and make a telephone call to Canada. The cost to a landline in Canada is very cheap, I would suggest €1 for 3/4 minutes but to ring a mobile in Canada is quite expensive and also the mobile phone in Canada will also bear some costs.
If there is a landline in Canada use the internet call centres.
THE RAMBLA.The name comes from the Arabic word 'ramla' which means riverside. It starts form the PLAZA DE CATALUÑA and ends to the port.
While strolling along LA RAMBLA you will pass from numerous kiosks selling newspapers, magazines and flowers.
What I really loved seeing is all the various groups of people walking the streets of Barcelona. Especially the parks. I loved seeing the well cultured members of Barcelona society getting together for walks or just conversation. It is nice to see that people take the time out to enjoy one another's company.
A brand new wooden pedestrian bridge, the Rambla de Mar connects the Rambla with the Maremàgnum, a complex with shops, cinemas, bars and restaurants.
Another fun thing to do down here is to take a boat excursion on one of the 'golondrinas' which takes you around the harbour and along to Port Olímpic where the sailing events at the 1992 Olympic Games took place.
There is a fantastic PArk at the top of the city known for young people as EINA! Nice place to loss an afternoon smoking with friends. To arribe there just take the bus no 65 and leave it at the last stop. See u there!
Bought loads of souvenirs in this great little shop-all of which were really lovely. It sold all kinds of things, from clothes to jewelery, and this lovely photo album, which is really big!
It is easy enough to find and the staff were all really friendly. There were even fitting rooms so you could try on the clothes if you wanted-something we didnt see in any of the smaller clothes shops we went into, so we were impressed by this! An assortment of lovely souvenirs, like the photo album in the picture, which is something really nice, plus you can then keep all of your holiday photos in there, so it will be extra special! About €20, nothing was much more expensive than that in there.
