Gay Friendly Lodging

by scottnq

Can anyone recommend gay friendly lodging when I come to Barcelona in October? Thanks

Re: Gay Friendly Lodging

According to my Time Out Guide (2001)Barcelona is the most gay friendly city in Spain and only specifically lists Hostal Que Tal and Hotel California for gay accommodations. They also say that the resort town Sitges, about 25KM is a "little Gay home away from home" and "a must see for the gay traveller to Barcelona" but many places close up at the end of summer. They recommend Hotel Romantic and La Renaixenca. I can't say I have any personal experience regarding this stuff, but Time Out is very reliable source. You might want to check out their Barcelona website for more up to date info (or buy a 2009 copy).

Hotel Axal

www.axelhotels.com/en/

this is exactly the other way round to your question: it's a gay hotel which is hetero-friendly.

The first hotel of this chain was in Barcelona but now they have opened branches in Berlin and Buenos Aires.

It's in the middle of the Eixample distict, in an area called Gayxample because there are a lot of gay bars, restaurants and shops. The building where the hotel is is very beautiful, an old building from the 19th Century in Modernista Style (Art Nouveau), which has been fully restaured.

I'm from Barcelona and gay friendly, but as I'm not gay, I'm not so knowledgeable about other such places.

Sorry, "Hotel AXEL"

Hi, I'm as well gay-friendly but not gay, so I can only answer what I heard from my gay friends

They used to go hang out at the bar of the hotel Axel but they are not going anymore as they found it now too overrated and too full of "divines" (you know what I mean). I guess is OK if budget is not an issue for you. However, as said above, this is a very gay-friendly city so if you're a gay couple is very unlikely you're frowned upon in any lodging you choose, or anywhere you go

Have a great trip

Travel Tips for Barcelona

Very USEFUL!!!:

www.bcn.es...

Very USEFUL!!!:

www.bcn.es (you can choose language).)
www.barcelonaturisme.com (you can choose language).

You must visit the modernist houses of Gaudi: Casa Batlló, Casa Mitlà, etc... for the BCN's bourgeoisie and the 'Güell' Park.

Don't forget to visit the 'Ramblas'!!!

In Montjuïc you can see the modern part of the city, with some of the Olympics facilities... and the Olympic Harbour, for nightlife!

You needn't shell out

We wondered why, when we returned to some of the restaurants in Barcelona more than once, the waiters were fighting over which one was going to serve them.
it was only afterwards that we realised it was on account of our tipping.
We had, on every occassion that we enjoyed a meal, left at least €2, as we do in England. We discovered however, that you are only really expected to leave this amount if the meal is in the range of €69-anything less and even a few cents is appreciated!
Needless to say, we got really good service where we had left tips the next time we went in!

Packing List

As always when travelling, a Travel Insurance against theft and loss is a good idea. Also making photocopies of the important pages of your passport, and other important documents just may come in useful.
Como siempre que se viaja, un Seguro de Viaje para pérdidas o robos es siempre una buena prevención. Hacer fotocopias de las páginas importantes de su pasaporte y de otros documentos importantes es también una buena idea.

Take the train to Figueres to see the Dali Museum

by kazander

Visit the museum Dali built in Figueres. The building is as impressive as the work it holds.

You can take the train from Barcelona Sants To Girona continuing on to Figueres. It takes 2-2 1/2 hours. A taxi from the station to the museum is not expensive.

Check out my page on Figueres for more pictures and info on the museum

Chocolates to die for

by Belsaita about Cacao Sampaka

I've still to find someone who does not like these shops. Well, only in case you hate chocolate... but even someone who does not like chocolate, may buy here some presents for their choco-holic friends or family ;) .
They have from the basic (but amazing) chocolate tablets, to the most sophisticated flavored ones, organized in “collections”. My favorite: the #3 “Cocoas and spices of America”. They use only authentic cocoa, without preservatives nor additives, so the quality is excellent.

You can taste some of the products on sale before buying, as they have a small bar area inside the shop. During winter, you can have a warm rest sampling their sinful hot chocolates. During summer, they have milkshakes and ice-creams. As well, they have a selection of sweet wines, liquors and cavas which better combines with chocolate, and anything else related with chocolate you may dream of! And a few non-chocolate related items/goods too.
