RE: Hostal Campi, Hostal Plaza or Hostal Coral?

by eugene.uk

You may want to check www.hotelsearch.com featuring lots of Hostales in Madrid. You book directly with the Hostal, on their own website so you can check their rooms/facilities/location/etc. Also, you do not pay until you check-out, and you can cancel up to the day before your expected arrival without cancellation penalties.

I have stayed at Hostal Astoria and Hostal Las Fuentes, both right in central Madrid, steps from Puerta del Sol. They both have spotless rooms, recently renovated, with ensuite facilities, safe box and TV. I have no problem to recommend either.

Good luck.

Travel Tips for Barcelona

Tourist Information

by Marpessa

During summer (I'm not sure if it is here at other times of the year) there is a tourist information centre set up on the walkway in the middle of La Rambla.

These guys and girls will help you out with any questions you have about Barcelona. There are free maps of the city and lots of guides. You can also buy the tickets for the hop on/hop off bus tours here.

My friends and I had a couple of questions about tours and the lady there was very helpful and friendly and gave us some great advice.

2 sugars

by SirRichard

I use to have my coffees very sweet. Here in madrid they always put U 1 sugar with the coffee.
So in BCN I was very pleased to find that coffee comes usually with 2 pieces of sugar, so I didin't have to ask for another :-)))
Besides, the milk is always creamy and foamy here, "capuccino" style...

Camp Nou

by tim07

This is a must see place if you are a football fan. The stadium is open to look around on your own on non match days. Once inside you can visit so much, team changing rooms, press boxes & interview rooms, the stadiums own chapel. There is a museum there telling the history of the club & displaying the trophies won. At the end of the tour you get to step out into the stadium & take in fantastic views of the stands & pitch. Once outside there is a club shop where you can buy almost anything with the FC Barcelona logo.

Park Guell - The focal point.

by Jerelis

Park Guell is skillfully designed and composed to bring the peace and calm that one could expect from a park. The absolute focal point of the park is the main terrace, surrounded by a long bench in the form of a sea serpent. To design the carvature of the bench surface Gaudi used the shape of buttocks left by a naked workman sitting in wet clay. The curves of the serpent bench form a number of enclaves, creating a more social atmosphere.

The best part of this park is actually not the architecture of Gaudi, but the views of the city! It offers the most complete view of Barcelona and the bay. It is possible to view the main city panorama, with the Sagrada Familia and the Montuïc area visible at a distance. But anyway ... keep this in mind what we enjoyed -> Imagine you are in a fairy tail, in a fairy park, with spectacular views and spectacular stone structures ... you are in Park Guell!

Address: Carrer d'Olot, 08024 Barcelona.
Directions: Bus 24, 25, 31, or 74. Metro; line 3. Lesseps Station, then follow the street signs. Do keep in mind that it is quite a strenous walk to the main entrance!

Gotham - Retro furnishings

by sue_stone about Gotham

Being a fan of all things retro, I was delighted to come across a shop called Gotham, which specialises in retro furniture and home wares. Gotham is located just down the road from Placa de Sant Jaume, in the old town, and was the pioneer of such shops in Barcelona.

They sell a good range of furniture from the 50's & 60's, all restored beautifully. They also have some great lights, vases, crockery and other such items. We enjoyed a good browse at Gotham, though didn't make any purchases - there was a mirror that I really liked but don't think it would have fit in my suitcase ; )

Hmmmm....though I am sure they would have arranged shipment for us if required.
