Central & Cheap & Clean
This hostel is in a historic building tuscany style XIX century. Helpful staff. Simple but very clean, our room was cleaned every day. Is central location in the Gothic Quarter very close to ramblas. Virtual photos in their website www.hostalquartiergothic.com

Hostal Avinyo?
Hi,
I am visiting barcelona with 2 friends in 10 days and we have booked a room at the Hostal Avinyo near Plaza de Sant Jaume. Does anyone know anything about the hotel or how safe the area is at nighttime? Any help would be much appreciated - thanks!

There is fairly good info on the web re the hostal, including at least one indepent evaluation.
I would say the area is pretty safe these days, but you always have to be alert in any big city.
I would recommend taking a taxi back to the hostal at night.
The area on the other side of the Ramblas is not recommended (at least, not by me!)
