We'll be traveling around Europe for a month, with Barcelona being our first stop.
We would like to buy a kettle to heat water in. Could you tell me where I might shop for such an item?

I'm afraid that you cannot purchase the kettle on line if you are traveling. But if you visit Barcelona, for sure, you must go to Plaza de Catalunya and the Ramblas. In Plaza de Catalunya you will see EL CORTE INGLES, which is the biggest retailer in Spain and where you can shop the kettle.

Barcelona has a great architectural richness. It is not only the work of the famous architect Antoni Gaudi (La Sagrada Familia, Park Güell). There are plenty of old buildings represeting the Modernsime (Catalan Art Nouveau) all around the town. Gothic and Roman architectural styles can be seen in the Gothic Quarter (Barri Gotic) east of La Rambla.
This picture does not do it justice at all!!! The glass on the facade was like glitter and diamonds in the sunlight. You must see this for yourself! See the balconies inspired by Venetian masks?? Do not miss.
In Catalunya and in Spain it is traditional to make a Belen at Christmas which is a representation of the Nativity scene. Thanks to the Catalans this is now more interesting as they added an extra figure that has now become so popular it has spread to the Belens all over Spain.
This extra figure is the Caganer or Cagon which is a figure literally going to the toilet (number 2). Although at first it seems a little disgusting think about it this way: He is fertilising the land!
Placa reial is a real gem, whether you want budget lodgings, a coffee in the square, a nice cold beer before your night out, some tapas - roman orgy style, or a small nightclub.. It's well worth a look.
As you walk in there is a bar on the far left that's very nice, in the far right corner are a few small nightclubs.
ok so it's not really off the beaten track but it is quite easy to miss.
This festival is not as famous as others like Cannes, Venice or some others in Spain, but it's specialized in fantastic and science-fiction films, or it was, since the Generalitat put money and gave it a more 'international' look and showing films of all genres.
In any case, the festival is a good chance to meet the beautifulness of Sitges during the first weeks of October.
