RE: SURPRISE FOR MY WIFE

i have visited barcelona a few times,
i stayed the last time at princess sercotel 1 avenue diaganal.
hotel search(venere.com)
the reason i liked it was that it was far enough from the
centre to be quiet at night, but close enough to be in the centre
when you need to,buses and tram outside hotel, metro a few minutes accross
the road.
also in the same block is a fairly new shopping centre, restaurants, cinema, large supermarket etc.
good facilities in the hotel, sauna, swimming, jaccuzzi, small gym, free internet access in lobby.
i will definately stay there next time i go

What do you mean by "quality"? What is your budget??

Princess is a good choice of functional new hotel. But I personally don't see it as teh ideal scenario for a romantic getaway. Too corporate-look. Maybe is just me?

But for more charm I would look for soemthing like Hotel Neri, Casa Fuster, Claris... all these luxury hotels located in old nice buildigs. Or, in the modern side but central, what about hotel Omm with the new spa (whow, something like this would be my ideal surprise gift!!)

Barcelona, wow wonderful choice for a surprise :)

I don't know about your budget, but for me Hotel Antibes was luxurious (we usually stay at camping sites).

Here a link to what a have to say about it, and some photos (hope I got the url right):

Have a lovely trip :)

Hotel Condal is located in the barri Gòtic. It has smaller, but quiet rooms and the price (about 60-70 Euro a double room) is still acceptable. At higher class hotels, ask if there is regulable air conditioning. You have to know that August in Barcelona is awfully hot, damp and dumpling. And many shops closed.
If you go towards the city from the airport, be aware that you'll pass by the most awful stinking factory, Sedas de Barcelona. Keep a plastic bag if your stomach doesn't stand this combination of heat and stink.
Refresh at the magic fountain upwards from Plaza Espana (Tuesday to sunday nights).

Travel Tips for Barcelona

PULPOS A LA GALLEGO

by listenandlearn

Here are some tips when preparing PULPOS ... you might want to try when your ready to have one of our favourite tapa "PULPOS"
This is an old photo and the reason being is because it's the largest photo we took and it is well showned.
REMEMBER IF THEY ARE BOUGHT FROZEN, DEFROST IT AT LEAST 24 HOURS.
WASH THE OCTOPUS WELL, REPEATEDLY.
HIT IT WITH SOMETHING HARD (AS THE SAYING GOES TO CALM IT DOWN AND THAT WAY IT WILL SOFTEN IT OR TENDERIZE.
START BOILING WATER IN A LARGE DEEP POT. NOW PUT SOME LAUREL, SALT, AND FRESH GARLIC AND LET THE WATER BOIL, BOIL, AND REALLY BOIL.
THEN DIP THE PULPO THREE SHORT TIMES (NOT TO SHOCK THE PULPO...SO, COUNT ONE, TWO AND THREE..)
THEN AFTER THAT TIME IT DEPENDING ON HOW LARGE THE OCTOPUS IS, BUT MUCH TIME IS NOT RECOMMENDABLE AS TOO LONG IN THE BOILING WATER YOU WILL OVER COOK IT AND IT TURNS OUT TO BE CHEWY OR LIKE EATTING RUBBER OR SIMPLY GUMMY. FOR THESE SIZE WHICH IS APPROXIMATELY 4 KILOS, ABOUT 25 MINUTES SUPER BOILING WATER IS NEEDED.

SERVE IT ON A ROUNDED WOODEN PLATER:
CUT THE PULPO IN BITING PIECES.
POUR GENEROUSLY YOUR VIRGIN OLIVE OIL.
I WOULD SPRINGLE SWEET PIMENTON AND A BIT OF SPICEY PIMENTON.
Enjoy our favourite pulpos! EATTING!

Wedding pictures at Park Guell

by irisbe

Visiting Park Guell, we encountered this group of people who has chosen the beautiful surroundings as a background for their wedding pictures. I am convinced that the late afternoon sun will add to the intimicy of their photo's.
I guess this park happens to be often the setting of these kind of activities.

Mes que un club: More than a Club!

by blint

In Barcelona there are tow football teams Espanyol and FC Barcalona. They are both in the Premier League though FC Barcelona usually has much better results. In fact Barca is normally engaged in a fight for the title with Real Madrid. These are the 2 most popular football teams in Spain.

Barca play in Camp Nou/Nou Camp and their strip is blue and deep red. Prices range from 18 euros to 61 euros to see a normal league match at home. This depends where you sit of course because it is a very big stadium and if you go for the cheapest tickets you will be virtually among the clouds!
You can buy tickets online, at the stadium or through the popular Catalan bank La Caxia (though the bank machines).

You can visit the museum here for 8'50 € or combine it with a tour for 13€.

Opening times:
Monday to Saturday, (from 2nd April to 28th October) from 10:00 to 20:00 - Camp Nou Tour until one hour before the Museum closes. The rest of the year the Museum opening hours are from 10:00 to 18:30.
Sundays and public holidays, from 10:00 to 14:30 - Camp Nou Tour until one hour before the Museum closes.
On days of League and Champions league matches in the stadium, from 10:00 to 13:00 - Camp Nou Tour not available
January 1 and 6 and December 25, closed

When visiting Montserrat, my...

by ChicaAmable

When visiting Montserrat, my favorite part was hiking up the mountain on the paths. The funiculares which take people up the side of the mountain were out of order due to recent flooding, so we climbed the mountain on foot. What an experience! It was wonderful. Hard work, but worth it. Every so often we stopped at a shrine that had been built by the monks. The one pictured here is called St. Joan. We had a picnic lunch at one of the resting spots at the beginning of the trail. We didn't get to hike up as far as Sant Jerónim, apparently the most spectacular views of all, due to time constraints. I'd love to visit again!

English Bookstore in Gracia

by jhoolko about Hibernian Secondhand English Books

If you're looking for a book in English, this is the spot. The majority of the selection is secondhand, though there are some new books available. Be sure to check out both the paperback and hardback sections. The older antique books can be found in the front, and provide a lovely, interesting souvenir that can also keep you busy on the train, plane, or beach in Barceloneta. I picked up a 1925 edition of Joseph Conrad's The Secret Agent, and it prompts a delightful conversation about my travels whenever I bring it out.

English Staff, Check Website for Hours. Antique Books, English Books. 1-10 Euros
