 | Hotel Constanza: Constanza (can't stand ya)

Hotel Constanza is trying hard to be an upscale boutique hotel, but failing miserably. The service from the initial check-in process to the maid service was pathetic. When we arrived, the room was not ready; we were tired and hungry but the desk staff did not suggest we go to their attached restaurant (Concalma). Once in the room there was no way to contact the reception desk (no phone list, no information booklet, no pen, no paper). The room's door did not lock (seriously, when trying to leave we closed the door behind us and it would just push open). The shower drain was clogged and drained slowly (nothing like taking a shower in standing water). The bathroom sink began draining directly on the floor. One morning there was no hot water (nothing like a cold shower in the morning). If you're staying more than one day, don't expect your room to be cleaned until late (3:00, 2:30, 3:15). So much for a siesta. No need to set an alarm clock (construction begins promptly at 8:00 a.m.). On our final day the maid had no soap or toilet paper (we had to use shampoo and grab toilet paper from the lobby restroom). Checking out, the desk staff resisted thanking us until two of us first said "thank you." These are shortcomings unacceptable anywhere but possibly expected at budget accommodations. Hotel Constanza is not marketing itself as a budget accommodation. Barcelona has many options, don't waste your time or money on Hotel Constanza.
