Sweet town Barcelona
by Nenocovic
Barcelona is definitely most beautiful town in the world, at least for me. I have been there over 50 times and never felt bored. So many places o see with architecture so diferent than anywhere else I have been. You have to see Sagrada Familia church and all the buildings made by Antonio Gaudi, or feel the Ramblas or walk around Barri Gotic to understand what am I talking about. But there is something that was very interesting because I did not expect to come across that in Spain. You see i love chocholate and marchpane (marcipane) and I always thought that the best of those are coming from Austria and Switzerland. But I was wrong. Catalonia/Spain has so many diferent tastes, and many of them are hand made by very old recepies. You should also visit Montserrat - national shrine of Catalonia with Madonna Moreneta (Black Madonna)- it is mountain 1 hour drive to north and buy chocholate there made by Benedictin monks. Recepie is the same since 1025. But if that is impossible, you can always find many little stores that sell great chocholate and marcipane and wrap them in beautiful boxes for gift.
Think twice about taking kids...

Think twice about taking kids with you.
The thing about Barcelona is that the nightlife starts just about the time I am going to bed back in England. People don't even start to eat until late evening.
I took my youngest son (then 14 years old) to Barcelona, just so he could get some travel experience. It wasn't long before I realised that I chose the wrong city. Just as we went back to the hotel, things were hotting up, people were beginning to go out in the evening, bars were turning on their music, pretty sensuous girls were brushing passed.....and I had to go back to the hotel !!! Of course I could not leave my son on his own in the hotel......but the thought crossed my mind at times !
So, I am convinced...choose another city to take children !!!! And enjoy the nightlife......
These pictures, show Gary......my youngest.....(I am showing my age now !).
Have court will play...
by bpwillet
I am not so sure what game this is that they are playing, maybe a version of Bacci Ball or lawn bowling. But during our trip in particular we were able to see quite a few men huddled around talking strategy and really concentrating on this game in particular. Great roars would be heard when something good was done and there was always the buzz of conversation.
See the Mighty Barca play football
by easyoar
Watch the might Barca play football, assuming the football season is on (normally between Sept to May time) and they are playing at home.
The Catalans are fanatical about their football, so if you are neutral, go in the home end, and make sure you cheer the right team! You can get some huge crowds, especially when they play Real Madrid! This is considered a huge grudge match with both sides detesting eachother.
One thing that is impossible for either side to forgive is one of thier players leaving to join the other club. This happened fairly recently when the Portuguese player Luis Figo left Barca to go to Real. He got death threats, and during the game, when he went to the corner of the pitch to take a "corner kick", a dead pigs head was thrown at him on the pitch! Like I say, these things are taken seriously. Your wallet
