Decent For The Price

Having been warned about the standard of budget hotels in Barcelona, I wasn't expecting much. I made the booking online weeks before our holiday, drawn by the low prices compared to other hotels.

We arrived at Barcelona airport in the evening, took the Aerobus to Placa de Catalunya. Taking the advice of online travellers, we decided to walk to the Hotel. Not the best idea - the Las Ramblas is crowded in the evenings and the uneven pavements did not help. Also, be warned - there are 20 steps at the entrance that lead up to the reception. Check in was a breeze - the receptionists spoke English and were quite helpful.

A few days before arrival, another friend decided to join us so we had to change our room from a double to a triple-sharing room. We emailed the hotel 3 days before our arrival and they managed to get us a room! The room was much bigger than I expected - with one queen sized bed and two single beds. The room had a view of the Las Ramblas (see photo). The toilet was decent - simple and clean. The beds were not as clean as it could have been, but tolerable. The door was in pretty bad condition with what looked like a fist-sized hole on the back.

Our friend left after 2 days, while we stayed on for another 3 days. But the hotel was nice enough to let us stay in the same room. It was great having so much space!

Location-wise, Husa Internacional cannot be beat - right in the middle of the Las Ramblas, the Liceu Metro station is right outside, Mercat Bouqueria so nearby, so many restaurants, cafes, clubs and shops within walking distance. However, all this also means that it never really gets quiet at night so beware if you are light sleeper.

All in all, I guess it was pretty decent for its price. If you're looking for a cheap place to stay right where all the action is - then this is a good choice. Rooms cost around 90 euros per night.

This is the brochure we got in the Hotel at arrival..

Well I must say: doesn't it look excellent??

Parking a 100 mtrs. from the hotel..

Teatre Liceu opposite the hotel.....

Unique Quality: After our forthnight the room wasn't as you can see it in the brochure.......we had such busy days, so much to do and see and no time to tidy up the room each day!!

But that's holiday isn't it??

WALKING THE RAMBLAS....

I had a wonderful time here with my daughter. Our room was on the second floor and we enjoyed the bubbling, lively Spanish life underneath our balcony.

And at night?? we were tired enough to sleep and love being waken up by the birdsong that didn't come from the birds in the trees, but the birds-for-sale in the little cages.

The beds were fine, as were the bathroom and breakfast.....

Unique Quality: The hotel is opposite the LICEU, GRAN TEATRE DEL LICEU......which is on the left side of the Ramblas coming from Plaça Catalunya....

This most wonderful, dignified, completely 19th Century Barroque building was the place of a anarchistic bom attaque in 1893!

(1) Train from Airport to Husa Internacional
I will be arriving in Barcelona this Sunday (11 Sept) at 7pm. How do i get to the hotel by train?

(2) National Day of Catalunya
Just found out that 11 Sept is the National Day of Catalunya. Will the trains be running as usual that day? Will there be huge crowds celebrating? Will the shops, restaurants, nite clubs be open or closed?

(3) Mango Outlet Store
Found on the Frommers website that the address of the outlet store is 'Girona 37', Metro is "Tetuan and Urquinaona". How far away is that and which line is the station on? Would appreciate any advice on how to get there.

(4) Other Outlet Stores
I'm a total shopaholic and love to buy clothes from outlet stores. Other than LaRoca Village, is there any other places where there are outlet stores? Especially for women's clothing and brands like Zara, Camper etc.

Thank you!
