Comments of Ideal Youth Hostel in Placa Catalunya

by josefinadiaz

Hi! I've made reservations at the Ideal Youth Hostel in Placa Catalunya in Barcelona. Am a little unsure about my choice, if anyone has heard of the place or has stayed there, let me know.

Please, if anyone knows, how far is the place from the Barcelona Forum or the International Convention Center in Barcelona?

Thanks so much!

the plaça de Catalunya is the heart of barcelona. i believe there is a lot of public transport to the forum.

but the forum hasn't success, few people go there.

Re: Comments of Ideal Youth Hostel in Placa Catalunya

Forget the Forum, it's utter crap. If you want to enjoy yourself there are plenty of more interesting things to do in the city centre.

Hi! I don't know about that youth hostel.I've been in Barcelona just two months ago, really there are much to see in the city, but if you have the chance go to the Forum, really is not very interesting, but there is two nice museums and a very interesting pavilion about the languages in the world that worth a visit!.It is very easy to go to Forum from the center of the city using the metro or also the new tramway.

You can always get directions from anywhere to anywhere by visiting the BCN transit page at The page is in English, Spanish and Catalan. As I don't know which bus terminal you will be at, I can't give you a starting point or know the best line to take.

Here is where you're going:
If you arrive at Barcelona Estació del Nord, take the metro (Red line) till plaça Catalunya and there change to green line.
If you arrive at Estació de Sants, you've already there the green line.

Hope this helps,

Last year I went SEA POINT hostel, located in Barceloneta neighborhood. After several hostels around Europe, finally we found a friendly staff. They organize everyday special activities to the guests, which was kind of nice.. we were tired of asking, looking at the map and walking.. They told us where to go, how and when.,.. Besides, it was cheap: 21€ per night with breakfast included.. and internet!! Their web site is

Travel Tips for Barcelona

I don't know if it is very special for Barcelona, or if it was just something that happened while I was there. But there were plenty of demonstrations going on.

Here you can see pictures from a anti-America demonstration.

Catalunya (Catalonia)

Barcelona and Girona belong to Catalunya. The locals speak catalan which is very close to spanish. Catalan in all its variants is spoken over an area with a population of 10 million people.
Catalunya has its own flag called Senyera. It shows four red bars alternating with five yellow ones, all of the same width.
Since 1980 september 11th is declared as the Catalan national holiday.

Watching A Match

by viddra

Soccer (European football)is, without doubt, the most important sport in Spain and in Barcelona. So, if you like soccer, it would be a shame to miss the chance of watching a match in the spectacular Camp Nou.

I took this photo from a small path in Parc Güell. This well known joke was in big letters. Says "Why call it tourist season if we can't shoot them?" I think they are serious. So, either duck and cover or act like a local and hide your camera. :)

It's an old covered market that sells all sorts of fresh products you can imagine. it's open in the evening too Everything, but the seafood is rumoured to be particularly delicious from average to less than average
