A room for rent in the centre of Barcelona in a walking distance to Las Ramblas

by Lelik

Barcelona, cheap room, Russian lessons
Hello all!
I spent two months in India, now my way is to Barcelona!!! So, i need a budget room in the centre of Barcelona by 20-25 euros/night, in order not to spend much money for transport, where i will have the opportunity to cook in order not to spend much money for restaurants and to wash my clothes. Also, later, i plan to make my Trans Siberian trip to RUSSIA and i would like to make some intensive private lessons of russian language in Barcelona in order to have some idea of this language and in order to learn something in russian (some grammar, any important expressions, phrases etc.) which will help me in my trip there.

Thanks in advance for any info and advices.

Accommodation - I found through "Gumthree forum" one girl (russian), who gives cheap her room. I stopped there. It was just the city centre in Gothic area, on Regomir street, just in one minute from City Port. I paid 25 euros per night. Here is her contacts: http://www.barcelonatrip.ucoz.ru/ or you can rent a room or cheap apartment in Barcelona http://www.barcelonarealestate.es

If you do not want to spend your money for restaurants, here are some of the cheapest supermarkets: DIA, LIDL, MERCADONA.

Hi,

i do not advice you to stay at hostel in BCNa centre, cos you will not be able to sleep, when you share the room with 10 people, moreover the beds are durty and the price is 30 euros per person.

this New Year holiday 2010 i rented a big individual room in Barcelona centre, near the beach and Las Ramblas (Jaume 1 and Liceu metro st-ns) and paid just 30 euros night including all. i found it through the agency http://www.barcelonarealestate.es/

I advice you to visit the musium of Dali in Figueres, it is two hours from Barcelona by train (trains depart every 30-60 minutes and cost about 12€). i liked it very much.

Travel Tips for Barcelona

You hardly need me to tell you...

by davidcross

You hardly need me to tell you about Gaudi but it is as good as they say at the Sagrada Familia and the Parc Gruell - (and much better than photos can show - so here is one from the hill at Monjuic which you must go to as well. The large building houses what is probably the world's best collection of romanesque murals from small Pyrrenean churches and is easily accessed from the Plaça de Espanya (sic)
The Miro Foundation nearby is also worth seeing - and do hire a pair of headphones!) Parc Guell at sunset.

I only wish we had more time...

I only wish we had more time to enjoy and linger in this wonderful park, where parots live in the palms and where boats can be rented for a smooth ride over the calm waters of this beautiful lake in the middle of Parc de la Ciutadella.

Having your wine on a PORÓN

by listenandlearn

Here is a very typical custom among the locals here in Catalunya...Drinking your house wine on a PORÓN. It´s lots of fun but a bit messy if your not use to it...try it and you will enjoy it...marieinspain@yahoo.com

Collserola Park / wooded massif

by nancyread

Although many tourists visit Tibidabo, few bother to explore the enormous woodland area on the Collserola massif. This is a pity, because there are cycleways, riding trails, and paths that provide a welcome change from pounding hot city streets. There is a visitor centre revealing the unusual mixture of Mediterranean and North European fauna and flora found in the park (including wild boars and genets). The trails are generally well-laid out and signposted. Rather than going into detail, I have placed a link to the park authority below. Note that Tibidabo is fairly close to the visitor centre [Address: Carretera de l'Esglesia, 92, Tel: 932 803 552] and a good jumping-off point for many of these walks.

However, one path you would do well to avoid is the Cami de Sant Iscle. That is because Uralita, a company making asbestos cement, dumped industrial quantities of fibre waste along this track back in the 1970s. It seemed like a good idea to the local council at the time - a durable substrate and free! Many of the locals cycle and walk along this track, blissfully unaware of the deadly legacy and the asbestos fibres released as they churn the sandy surface. As a well-informed tourist, this is one health hazard you can save yourself. After all, you want the city to have a place in your heart, not leave a shadow on your lungs.

Those staying in the old quarter of the city and anywhere near demolition work should also watch out - asbestos cement roof water tanks and piping are commonly ripped out with no concern at all for public safety. Unfortunately, environmental concern and standards in Spain still lag far behind most of Northern Europe.

If you visit the park in the autumn/winter months, check the hunting season. The locals are gun crazy and are allowed to shoot boar in the park. More than one hiker has been blasted by trigger-happy yokels.

Take these basic precautions and you should have a pleasant day out. Put enough water and food in your rucksack and a map of the paths.

closed on sundays!!!!

by TheYoungs about Combined Suggestions

Most of the big department stores which we thought would be great to see are closed on sundays (as they are catholic) we only went for a weekend and on the saturday we did all the tourist things, big mistake, we could have done these on the sunday and spent saturday looking at the department stores. know for next time though!. However, most of the little shops down the alleys etc. are open and they do except a little bit of haggling.
