Casa Batllo by Gaudi
by VeronicaG
Casa Batllo was situated on the same street as our hotel, so we frequently passed by it on our walks.
Once again, notice the 'wavy' construction on its facade--Gaudi thought that since straight lines never exist in nature, they should not exist in architecture.
Doesn't it look like something from a children's storytale (pic #2)? The roof line is very imaginative and quite distinct, as are most Gaudi constructions. Some people say that the building's design brings to mind skull and bones--what do you think?
Designed by architect, Antoni Gaudi, it is considered his most 'celebrated building" which sits on what's known as the Block of Discord in Barcelona's Eixample district and said to represent the "advent of a new century and metaphorical defeat of the old".
This home was created for Josep Batllo, an affluent aristocrat, who lived in the lower levels and rented out the upper floors as apartments. This building can be toured; audio guides provided; admission.
Casa Batllo was designated a World Heritage Site in 2005.
Address: Casa Battlo No. 43, Passeig de Gracia
Something sweet in Barcelona
by meganhuntz
On a recent trip to Barcelona, I was blown away by the amount of chocolate in this town! I am a real chocoholic, but moreso a "foodie", so it's fun for me to find the little local out of the way places, where I can see and try something new. While walking around the Gothic Quarter, I found Dolso, the best little pastry and chocolate shop. I coincidentally met the owner, Pablo, who offered me a sweet wine to taste with some of his specialty hand made chocolates, and as they say in Spanish, Que Bueno! This may have been the best bite I took the whole trip- and that says a lot because we ate at some fabulous restaurants. I highly recommend Tapa 24 and Montiel. Come to find out, Dolso also has a restaurant, and unfortunately I found out about it too late and didn't get to try it before I had to come back home. It will surely be on the top of my list the next time around!
The weather is changing

On the last years the climate is changing and Barcelona is warmer and warmer.. the winter as i remembered doesnt exist.. fall season is so warm till mid november.. so wear a jacket is convenient but take in mind this.. summer starts in april, the temperatures are quite hot on that time and July should be worse than August when use to rain almost every day on recent years !! so the best time is may- june or late semptember !!
BOÍ-TAULL VALLEY
by Hosell
Another good idea if you got a car and time during your visit to Barcelona, may go to this nice valley: VALL DE BOÍ.It is located on Lleida province at Pyrenees mountains about 90 miles from Barcelona.
Here you'll see some beautiful ROMANESQUE ARCHITECTURE in almost all small villages on this valley you'll find a beautiful romanesque church, the best ones are in the small villages of Boí and Taull. All of them are designed by UNESCO as World Heritage and really it worth a visit.
This is a picture taken at Taull Romanesque Church.

The famous store is situated at Plaza Catalunya so if you are interested in electronic gadgets, books, cd/dvds you know that this is your place. It was quite packed with people in some parts of it thought.
It is also the place that you can buy tickets for major events/concerts. I have booked my tickets for the Priest Feast online and I came here to take my tickets.
It is open Monday-Saturday 10.00-22.00 and there are some more at Avenida Diagonal 3-35 and Avenida Diagonal 549
