Charter Fishing Trips in Barcelona
by alstone8
We are a group of 8 (4 couples) visiting Barcelona between the 5th and 8th August. We are looking for a charter fishing trip (only 4 adults will be fishing) on Friday 8th August for a 30th birthday gift. Does anyone have any ideas? Have checked out a few on line resources but all over priced.

Sorry! I have been quoted between 700 Euros and over a 1,000 Euros for half a day fishing (4 Hours). I was looking between 400 - 500 euros max.

going fishing from a boat from barcelona use to be like going fishing from a boat from new york. beter fishing and prices where to be had further south in spain.or north in france.

Definitely a fishing trip is not an usual activity here in Barcelona. A sailing trip can be great (just for the pleasure of it), but if fishing is you goal, you should better head elsewhere.
In any case, as you have not much time in Barcelona (4 days is not that much) I'd say that doing something that's unique to this region could be a better gift than doing something that's just so-so in this area. For instance your dates coincide with a "Festa Major" (a traditional summer festival) in Vilanova i la Geltrú, just 40 min by train South of Barcelona... What about going there, booking lunch in a good restaurant and watching the town "celebrating your friend's birthday"??.... Just my thoughts! Whatever you do, have fun!

I'm not saying them "don't do it", I'm just saying "Hi guys, you can do it, but it's expensive and not that good around here. I think you can invest better your time and money, so I'll suggest you an alternative". Just my opinion. They can take or leave it. Hope they understand my aim was to be helpful. Is just what I would say to a friend who were asking me the same question.
Travel Tips for Barcelona
La Laia
by iguana23
We happened to be in Barcelona during the La Laia festival. Don't know if this happens every year, but it is a festival for Santa Eulalia which tales place the first week of Lent.
Friday night whilst waiting for a friend, we came across a parade with two giant figures, a king and a gypsy girl (?), lead by something which was either a turkey or an eagle, wearing a crown.
Would love to know the significance of that, if anyone can explain!
Saturday morning, in the Placa de Sant Jaume, an orchestra played whilst five men on horseback stood outside the Ajuntament whilst a flag was unfurled from the balcony.
Really cool to come across something like this so unexpectedly!

Immerse yourself in Modernisme. This is the Nativity Facade: the most complete part of the church (1904). It has doorways representing Faith, Hope & Charity. The white doves represent the congregation.

Spanish people are very lucky here. Most workers have contracts and will earn the same amount of money every month. If they are fired, they must receive a compensation.
A waiter could make the same amount of money as any secretary, so they don´t depend on tips.
They will be very greatful if you do leave a tip and put it in a common pot to divide at the end of the day or week. But you are not required to leave a minumun amount of tip, unless otherwise requested (large groups).
There is an exception: as in many countries, ilegal residents are starting to work as waiters/waitresses in Barcelona (mostly southamericans). They get paid very little for a lot of work and have no health insurance.

Casa Fajol o de la Papallona
This little- visited Gaudi gem is located near Placa Espany and Parc Joan Miro. Although it is not open to the public, the reason for visiting is the enormous moth on the front!
Probably not worth a long trek to see unless you happen to be nearby (e.g for the magic fountains/Font Magica), nonetheless it is a magnificent piece of architecture.
(NOT GAUDI - but Built by Josep Graner i Prat in 1912 -
located at Llançà 20, Eixample, Barcelona, Catalonia
This is NOT currently visible on STreet-View Google Maps because (I think) it is hidden by trees.

The vast musical and teathrical culture the Barcelona offers, too bad that if you don't understand Catalan you'll not appreciate it.
Others: La Costa Brava (beautiful beaches only few miles north of Barcelona), Montserrat Mountain, The Pirineos.
