Does anyone know about group walking tours in Girona?

by leoinv1

Someone on one of the forums mentioned that there are official walking tours in Girona for like 10 Euros or so, but I cannot find any information on that. I can only find information about the private walking tours which are expensive, and also, I would rather be part of a group tour anyway. I know that the center is rather small, I just want to learn about the history of the streets and buildings - did walking tours in many cities and really like it.

I suppose you have checked the Tourist office web, but just in case:
http://www.girona.cat/turisme/eng/activitats.php
I didn't see any info about walking tours, but you can ask by e-mail.

Aitana has it right. Whereas in the UK tourist offices are useless huts run by little old ladies who close 75% of the time, and tell you things you already know, in Spain I've always found them rather good. We always find one when we visit a new town to get the proper map etc. (Usually closed Mondays).

You can contact them beforehand by phone or e-mail and always get a prompt response. If there are tours, they will know.

Personally we used a Cataluña guide book for the historic buildings in Girona - as you say it's quite small. HOPE YOU LIKE HILLS AND STEPS!! The history is immense, from Moorish times to Aragonese/Crusader right through Napoleonic and Civil war etc.

I was particularly fascinated with a book shop that sold only travel books - and not a small shop at that. I could've taken away a suitcase full if the wife hadn't dragged me out!

Travel Tips for Barcelona

Barcelona - Laundry - self service

by globe_trekker

If you are in Barcelona, and if you :
- don't want to fly home in a stinky, smelly clothes
- don't want to spend 7-10 euro for a piece in a hotel
- don't know where to drop your clothes to wash
- hate to hang your underwear, socks on the string in the bathroom
then bring your clothes to this location. It is self-service. The location is very close to Sagrada Familia ( around 4 blocks). The place called Wash'n Dry. It locates on the Provenca ( corner of Provenca and Bailen). Metro Verdaguer, line 4. The hour is : 7am - 22pm. If i remembered correctly, it closes on sunday.
I just happened to walk by on my visit of Sagrada Familia.

Architecture

by tini58de

We thoroughly enjoyed the architecture of Barcelona: there is the very old architecture in the Barri Gòtic, the modernistic houses of Gaudi and lots of wonderful Art Deco and Jugendstil houses along the Paseig Gracia. Just strolling around was such a pleasure, that made our stay extra enjoyable!

Local Tradition - Sardana

by Luchonda

The Cathedral itself was builded in 1298.
Magnificent is the wooden "Altar" - dating
15th century. Around this Cathedral you will see a lot of historical buildings and on Sunday's - local people - young and old - are showing their private Catalonian Dance

Theatre of Dreams

This is the place to vist for all soccer fans to go and visit when they`re here, its a fantastic stadium, full of history and glamour. Its the finest team in Spain...Except perhaps Real Madrid.
The museum is worth a vist and get your picture taken with the European Cup,as Arsenal fans its the only time it`ll be in our hands !!!!!
It seats 100,000,and theres no roof !!!

Ordinary churches

by Kuznetsov_Sergey

Many details of the houses located in this area, will draw your attention: lattices on balconies, ornaments on walls, lanterns, door handles. Pay attention to unusual and very successful lay-out of crossroads. Angular houses have the oblique corners, therefore space of the square considerably increases. Quite often it is possible to see monuments on the squares. The architecture of ordinary churches draws attention with the singularity as well.
