GREAT HOTEL CENTER OF CITY
by freshstart228
looking for a GREAT hotel in Barcelona that is in a safe area in the center of things. I am told it should be on one of the main streets?

Please define your idea of "great". many of the 4/5 stars are on major streets. If I were going to spend alot of money I would stay at Casa Fuster, a moderisme gem in Gracia, not on a big street. Many others would choose Majestic or Murimuri, or I suppose some would find the W great.

Here is a great hotel in the center of Barcelona; Hotel Casa Fuster, situated at Passeig de Gracia 132, Barcelona. One of my favorite hotels at the city of Barcelona.

Ok, just found out that Jubilada and me had the same hotel tip, so here goes another one: Hotel Medinaceli, located on the old Duke of Medinaceli Palace in the center of Barcelona. This is the adress: Duc de Medinaceli 8, Barcelona. This hotel is particularly well located.

The main streets are around plaça Catalunya but maybe passeig de gràcia is more safer and is also close to everything.
On this website http://tlink.as/DFforoen01 you can search for cheap hotels and apartments in Barcelona, maybe you´ll find it there.
Good luck with the search.
transport from Barcelona to Madrid
by drogo
Hi,
Can anyone advise on the cheapest way to get from Barcelona to Madrid? I have looked at some airlines, but am also curious about either bus or train. Appreciate your advice.
Thanks

I am almost sure that the cheapes transport from Madrid to Barcelona is by coach. (www.alsa.es). It may take 6-7 hours...but you will see a big part of Spain from the road! :-)
Anyway, if you are flexible with your dates...try, some low cost airlines(www.viajesiberia.com). Coach stations are well situated and "in" the town. So if you go by plane you will spend some time getting into the town or reaching the airport...so it is up to you!
Good luck.

Also try Vueling

and the train

Agree with Miguel above. Usually the cheapest is bus, if you don't mind a longer trip. If you have time enough to make some stops on the way, i.e. Zaragoza, Medinaceli... could be not a a bad idea.
Plane: depends on your dates, flexibilty and especial deals. Not so far ago Spanair was offreing trips at 20 euros! Vueling usually is the cheapest. Check the new airline Clickair (but be advised it is a second brand of Iberia)
Train: it will take you about the same time door-to-door than plane. It may not be the cheapest option, but for me is the best and more comfortable way.

Clickair does not fly to/from Madrid.

ops, I was confused then!

Iberia "gave away" Barcelona operations to Clickair, also to compete with Vueling. Madrid is too important for Iberia (intercontinental on-line connecting). Anyway, taht;s what I understood from publications.

TIPS FOR PLANNING 15 DAY VACATION
by vanzara42
This is our first visit to spain. Must places include Barcelona and Madrid.
We are thinking may be 3 days for Gibralter and Morrocco (where ?). Please
provide ideas for other places to visit for a 15 days to 20 day trip.
We are planning to travel by bus or train. Hire car would be last resort.
Thanks for your time.

While in Madrid, plan 1 day tours to Toledo, El escorial, Segovia or Avila and going down south, Granada is a must see (The Alhambra)
Regards

You will have not enough time to see half Spain, so I would forget about Morocco, too much hassle to get there and only see the worst part (this beautiful country deserves a couple of weeks, not a couple of days).
In Spain, you can easily spend one week in each Barcelona and Madrid doing some daytrips from each one, and you will not have enough. Nice daytrips from Barcelona are Girona, Figueres, Montserrat... And you can stop in Zaragoza (and maybe Medinaceli) in your way from Barcelona to Madrid. I do second Gentex suggestions of daytrips from Madrid and of course Granada. You can see as well Cordoba and Sevilla. I've just returned from one-week vacation in Western Andalusia (Jerez-Cadiz-Gibraltar-Ronda-Antequera-Sevilla) and we did only scratch teh surface of this beautiful area! Don't rush from one city to another and allow some tiemm to enjoy the little villages and the coutryside.
One important thing: when are you planning to travel? Madrid and Andalucia in Spring are lovely. But they are hot as hell in summer!
