    Pensió Alamar

    by

I stayed for four nights in October 2010 and would definitely go back. It's a small but clean and quiet place in the Gothic Quarter. There are several bars and small restaurants in the area and within less than five minutes you will be on the Rambla.
The old lady was extremely friendly even though I speak no Catalan and very little Spanish. I stayed in a very small single room for €25 per night, which seems to be very cheap for Barcelona. There's a kitchen you can use, even though I haven't used it and so can't comment on how clean it is. To take a shower you have to walk through the hallway and the "office" to the shower, which isn't ideal, but definitely okay for a few nights.

    Unique Quality: Very cheap.

    Directions: Barri Gòtic

  • never again

My and my boyfriend were stuck in this Pension Alamar in Barcelona for 2 nights. The beds were terrible and the staff very unfriendly . Cold as hell at night time when they turn the heat off. You don't want to stay here, we also had our I pod and sun glasses stolen from our room. After 2 horrible nights, we found Pension Cordobesa in the Rambla for half the price we were paying at Alamar and they have better beds and friendlier staff. I do not recommend Pension Alamar in Barcelona

    Unique Quality: location

    Directions: barrio Gotico

  • Not quite Gaudi, but it's good

The Alamar is in stumbling distance of the Gothic quaarter and the Ramblas. Check out the Venus cafe below, great for reasonably priced food and wine .Our double bedded room was small but perfectly formed, with a balcony great for people watching and soaking up the sounds and atmosphere of the streets below. Roger, our host, speaks english, (and french and probably german) and was helpful finding us alternative accomodation when we found we'd booked a day short. We would have loved to have stayed on, but they were fully booked.
Ignore bad reviews of the area, the only hassle we had was at the harbour, when two teenage girls tried to rob us by way of a bogus collection for deaf people.

Unique Quality: Use of the fully equipped kitchen saved us a fortune and its great watching what everyone else has for breakfast.

Directions: It's off the Ramblas, you can't go wrong.

We payed 30Euro per night for a double room (without breakfast).

Unique Quality: It's a very simple pension but what is most important for me: it is CLEAN, QUIET and the owners are very FRIENDLY!!! What more can you want!!!

There was also a small kitchen at our disposal.
