Pension Colon might be a common name. The one I am thinking of is at the entrance to Plaza Real on the left hand side as you enter from the Ramblas (first floor if memory serves me).
Barring any recent changes (it could only get better), it was a dive - the kind of place Orwell might have dossed out in to see how the low life lived. Somone was actually murdered there - the rumour was that drugs were involved. While I suppose this kind of thing could happen anywhere, the Pension Colon was the perfect setting.
Even the name is unfortunate - Colon here refers to Christopher Columbus (Cristobal Colon, hence the word "colonist"). Those staying at this particular pension could be forgiven for thinking of the English meaning.
I shall update this information and include a photo (taken from a safe distance) lest the place has undergone some magical transformation. Somehow, it seems highly unlikely...
