I just returned after 4 nights of budget accomodation in Barcelona. This 25+ room hotel is as basic as it can be, many room just with sink, bed, and wardrobe, plus a fan for the hot and humid days (which was still the case in September). Friendly reception staff available round the clock. No breakfast, but lots of bars and restos within 5 mins walk. Clean but spartan rooms. Showers on each floor.
Unique Quality: The location is just fabulous: right above the Parallel Metro station, as well as the cable car to the Montjuic. Bus 24 to the Plaza Cataluna stops in front of the hotel door, bus 36 to the beach round the corner. The district (the Poble Sec) is so typically Spanish (or Catalan) working class, you will miss all the lovely US and German tourists (am I sarcastic again?).
Directions: Take Metro 2 or 3 to Parallel and you are there.
Lots of reasonable-priced restaurants (incl. the inevitable KFC and Pizza Hut) within 5 mins walk, lots of reasonable priced shops and about 10 mins walk to the Mercat de Sant Antoni.
