Between the city and the sea

This 2** Hotel is located near the Barceloneta Metro station (line1) in a calm street, if you cross the street you are in the great "Riberra" district, 10 min walking and you are in the Barri Gotic and on la Rambla.

But for the transportation, the situation is also great, you have lots of buses lines that stop at the end of the hotel street, the hotel is also a solution in summer, because it's only 10 min walking from barceloneta crowded beaches.

The hotel is little but nice, better than some 3***, staff speaks english, french, spanish, catalan, there is a lift, room was nice aire contitioned was making some noise, but we were still happy to have it, the view from the bathroom was nice...

Breakfast is not so great, no much choice, bread wasn't that good but enough to live until the tapas!

Unique Quality: The best quality was the nice situation of the hotel

Close to action

This hotel is fine, for the cost you could not do better its the rooms were clean and neat although slightly small with TV, balconies to some rooms, mine had bath shower and a bidet. It is ideally located close to Barri Gotic and is only 10 mins from La Rambla, Barcelonetta metro is 4 mins walk. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful and the rooms were serviced daily

This is a dump - avoid at all costs.

Enjoy your stay in Barcelona - don't stay at this hotel! We booked four months in advance, and were given a broom cupboard! The ceiling was falling in, one of the two single beds was broken, and the toilet/bathroom you couldn't turn round unless you opened the door! We booked three nights but 'escaped' after just one. Went to the Park hotel instead, more expensive but worth it. For a cheaper but better hotel ( than this one ) try the Oasis.

Unique Quality: Unique qualities were: uniquely awful !
Do yourself a favour - Pass this one by!

Reasonably priced accomodation

We stayed at the Santa Marta Hotel which is near the Citudella and a good base for exploring.
£47 per double room per night

Unique Quality: Very cheap, close to both Port Vell and the Barrio Gotico. Also walking distance from La Parc Citudella. Closest metro station, Barceloneta (Linia 4)

The rooms are very small, but comfortable and clean and have a TV, shower and toilet. Breakfast is included. The only problem we had was the fact that there was a lot of building work going on at the station and we were woken at about 8am by drilling. It was just as well though, because we had so much to do we needed to get up early to fit it all in! Other than that, the location was peaceful and away from the noise of the main streets. The staff were friendly and helpful

Barcelona on a budget - beware

"Weekend Trip"

Hotel Santa Marta - The Bad Stuff
Please do not go to this hotel. Although cheap is often appealling the poor service and dreadful rooms will make a dent in the fantastic experience that is Barcelona.
The Good Stuff
One day take the Red (North) Tourist bus to the Sagrada Familia and other places including the Football Stadium, Park Guell and Monastry and you could take a ride on the Funicular.
Day two take the Blue (South) line for the Catalan Art Museum and Miro Museum, . Fom here the bus takes you to the port and along the seafront and back to Placa de Catalunya. Beautiful. You could do both rides in a day but you wouldn't be able to see everything. The rides themselves take about 3 hours each.
If you can catch the Dali exhibition which is currently on I suggest you do it, I know there is the Picasso museum and the Miro (comple surrealist heaven), but the breadth of drawings and paintings shown in this small exhibition is well worth the 8 Euros.

Seafood in Barcelona area

by Skow

Dear Colleagues,

I would like to spend a week in a area of Barcelona area during end of September. I would like to go "off the beaten track" - to the small towns by the sea, find hotel there and enjoy seafood.
So my question:

Is seafood (crabs, lobsters, plateau de la mer, homars) easy to be found by the sea?. What local restaurant is the best and where?

Thanks, Pawel

I can highly recommend the restaurant Hispània in Arenys de Mar: excellent sea-food and also traditional recipes with first quality ingredients.

Another suggestion is the restaurant of the Hotel Santa Marta near Lloret de Mar. The view on the Santa Cristina beach is sublime.

But you will be able to find what you are looking for in all the coastal towns. In most cases, adapted to the foreign tourist taste.
