This extensive green area was created in 1714 as a
military citadel and was offered to the city in 1869
and converted into a public park.
This area became the centre of the Universal
Exhibition of 1888. At present it accommodates the
Parliament of Catalonia, the Zoo, several museums,
green areas, a pond with boats and a beautiful
fountain with a cascade of statues and figures in
which Gaudí worked.
In the North entrance, the giant Victory Arch build
for the Exhibition is situated.
