A good hotel at a fair price

    by

We stayed at the Via Augusta for 3 nights this week. The location was OK for us, as we prefer to stay outside the tourist areas. Some traffic, but except for that a quiet and apparently safe neighbourhood. Metro FGC-Gràcia just outside the door and also Metro Fontana in a nearby street. Busses in many directions including Camp Nou stadium (switch to tram at Francesc Macià).
The staff was most friendly and helpful and all in all the hotel is much better than the 2 stars it currently holds. It seems to have undergone a major restoration, so maybe thats why? Our room was spotlessly clean as was the hotel everywhere we went. Some corridors below still seem to be awaiting a finishing touch on the restoration, but clean nonetheless.
The breakfast buffet was well worth the money payed when we ordered the room. A good variety of cereals, cold dishes, fruit, bread and cakes. As expected the hot dishes spanned less wide, but included the local potato omelette, sausages, bacon and boiled eggs.

Unique Quality: Our room on 7th floor was spacious, had a great view and despite facing the street, not very noisy. Furniture in good quality, although I fear that having wheels under the two beds could cause accidents with honeymooners... The room had a quality TV with 15 channels (missing BBC World,), free Wi-Fi internet and a safe in the big locker.
The bathroom was as big as some double-rooms in London Functional with lots of very hot water. Unfortunately missing a bathroom curtain, which caused some water spillage on the floor.
Finally one detail of great importance to some of us: This hotel offers smoking rooms. Non-smokers need not worry, as this is clearly marked on the doors.

Directions: Next to FGC-Gracia metro station on line 6 and 7

Daytrip to Girona

by MalenaN

Like many other tourists I visited Girona on a daytrip from Barcelona, but there are much more to see in Girona then you can see in a day. The city is situated 91 km northwest of Barcelona and has got a population of about 90 000. It is a lovely city with the old town spreading out on the hill east of River Onyar. I spent most of my time in Girona wandering around the narrow streets in the charming old town. There are several churches and museums of interest.

Girona is the Roman town Gerunda. It was situated along the highway running from Cadiz to Rome, Via Augusta, and here the Romans built a fortress. Later it came under Muslim control, but was taken by the Franks in AD 797. For some time Girona was the capital of one of the most important Catalonian counties, but in 878 it fell under Barcelona count ship. In the 11th century Girona was declared to be a city.

10 km south of the city is Girona airport. This airport is used by low budget flights like Ryan air for their flights to Barcelona. It takes one hour by bus from the airport to Barcelona, but if you land here don’t forget that Girona is a great city to visit as well!

A taxi will be around 18 euros

Sorry, Carmen, you are talking nonsense.
The transfer is more like one hour and a taxi would be more like 80 euros.
It is still easy by bus and costs about 18 euros return..

I hope the question is about a Barcelona hotel or else my humble apologies to Carmen.

Hi Isabella,
I don't think so.
Surely the taxi fare in Barcelona would only be about 5-7 euros, or even less?
Cheers

I am afraid I gave the wrong info as I gave buses to Girona, not barcelona, I guess with a name like that, I though the hotel was in Girona. (taxi price is from airport to Girona)

But all the buses info is in the link I gave from the airport web site, but it is only in spanish ....

As soon as you get off your Ryanair flight you will go through customs and all that stuff....then their will be bus booking booths before you exit the airport. Its a bus that leaves every 45 mins or close to that. The ride is about 1hr and drops you off at center of Barcelona. its pretty simple! the price is 12-18 Euros....i cant remember sorry!!

cheers
