Ground transportation trade offs from air port to central city, then next day to cruise ship
by jsburg
Need ground transportation recommendations for two, arriving Barcelona air port, with four pieces of heavy luggage, staying at HCC Montblanc Hotel on Via Laientana 61 and departing on cruise ship the following afternoon. Walking is OK if the pavement is smooth enough for luggage wheels, but distance may be up to 3 KM. Considering either taxi or train to near by plaza, but this could open us to local thieves.
Thank you. jsb

Take a taxi. I found that the taxis in Barcelona to be quite fair in pricing and with that much luggage, the taxi might be the only way to get you close to the Hotel and a bell boy. Going to the cruise ship the next day, make sure there is plenty of time to get to your dock. Many of the taxi drivers do not know where to go to find a particular cruise line. Have a map or a dock number to help the driver out. My wife and I spent about 45 minutes looking for the right dock. The driver was apologetic for taking so long to get us to the right dock and did not charge us what the meter said. He was a rare find in taxi drivers.
Travel Tips for Barcelona
Walk Las Ramblas, taking in...
by geecho
Walk Las Ramblas, taking in all the site, smells and sounds of Barcelona. I loved going to the market off of Las Ramblas in the early morning for everything from fish to fruit.
My fondest memory was experiencing the subway stations - beautiful and clean with classical music wafting through the platforms.
PALAU NACIONAL
by Hosell
The Palau Nacional,is located on bottom of Montjuic mountain. This is another of most beautiful parts of Barcelona, specially by nightime, when all lights on fountains are on.You can have some nice views of the whole palace, from Plaza de Espanya probably you'll see the best perspective of this beautiful building, with the stairs and fountain at main entrance,is the best place to take some nice pictures. That photo was taken from one of numerous lookpoints that you'll find on Montjuic mountain,so you can't see the fountain here.
Inside the Palau Nacional,as from 16th December 2004,you can see one of best museums in Catalonia or even in all Spain.
It is named "Museo Nacional de Arte de Catalunya" (MNAC),and right now is one of largest museums in world,it has 1,700 paintings and 45,000 sq.m.And after three long years of restauration, the build works are done and the Palace is ready to be open to public on that date.
Never too old for games
by acemj
As I was walking around the old Jewish part of town up in Montjuic, I ventured upon this beautiful little park and notice these elderly gentlemen playing a game that resembled Italina bocce ball. I was told that in Catalan, it's called "petanca". They all seemed to be enjoying life and each other's company.
The views from here were also great looking out over the city.
Gardens of the Universitat de Barcelona
by mikey_e
Barcelona during the summer can be overwhelmingly busy and it seems like there is nowhere to go to escape the crowds without leaving the city. A hidden gem is the garden of the Universitat de Barcelona. During the weekend you must enter them from the back of the Universitat, but during the week entry from the main building is possible. The gardens have a greenhouse and beautifully maintained flower beds, ponds and fountains. A perfect, quiet spot to read a book on a Sunday afternoon.
English cut
by Maggies about El Corte Ingles
El Corte Ingles is usually quite big but the one on Plaza Catalunya is just enormous. You can find anything you like here but it might not be the cheapest choice. Even buying groceries is more expensive here than in other shops.
