See Dali's House at Port Lligat
by cynapples
Dali's house at Port Lligat feels like a world away from everything, which is pretty amazing for an unabashedly touristy stop. Maybe its because of the distance and the remoteness of the location, but Port Lligat feels like a little town in the middle of nowwhere. You'll want to be sure and make reservations, though, to see the house or you might not get in. They limit the number of visitors that can tour it at a time, so plan ahead. We went on a whim, and got lucky, but I wouldn't recommend doing it that way.
Visit Port Llgat

We somehow did not manage to have enough time to visit Salvador Dali's home--Port LLigat. It was definitely a sight even from afar. The layers and eggs on top made it a very Dali kind of place.
Cadaques at peak season, Casa Dali in Port Lligat
by Geolina
Cadaques at the end of August will be crowded, no doubt, but it is still enjoyable. The Hotel Playa Sol is one of the nicest (if not the nicest) ones in Cadaques, central, right at the beach with a really nice pool-area. Haven´t seen the rooms though :-)
The Casa Dali in Port Lligat is about a 20 minutes walk form Cadaques, you have to book your visit in advance, since they guide you through the house. They give you a concrete hour to be there, it is always groups of eight people who enter: In August you should book well in advance, as it is the busiest time of year.
The Dali Museum in Figueres is nice, but I would prefer the casa in Port Lligat. You will have to stand in line to get tickets, no fun at the temperatures we are having here at the Costa Brava right now... Figueres doesn´t offer anything else besides the museum - I would prefer to spend more time in Cadaques, thats so much nicer (and I don´t say that just because I am living here!). Lots of nice little beaches (stone though), restaurants, shops - its a really fun place to be in summer!
Have a great trip!

Snorkeling in the Cap de Creus
by mstinawu
Some friends and I will be driving to Cadaques to stay for two nights from Barcelona and we'd like to spend a morning or afternoon snorkeling in the Cap de Creus Reserve. I've read good things online, but are these dive/snorkel sites something we can get to without getting a boat with a motor? I've seen some places that will take you for diving (but we don't have diving licenses and would rather do something more low key like snorkeling), but not sure how it all works. Could we just rent a kayak and kayak to some random place for snorkeling? We'll be there in later September.

I do have a diving cert and have been diving along some of the Spanish coasts. Unless there is a ship wreck, I've been rather dissapointed with the diving. The hassle for getting gear, transport, boats, then drying/cleaning all your gear, etc is not worth the hassle.
However, doing a bit of snorkeling is perfectly worth it. I did just what you plan to do. I've rented kayaks from a few towns along the Costa Brava (Augua Blava for example) and simply tied up or beached the kayaks and dove in.

Did you happen to go at the Cap de Creus Reserve? If so, where are some good anchoring spots? =D

Unfortunately no I did not. We got about 500m from there at the end of our day. We were planning to go back the next day, but the weather did not cooperate.
I know we went into two different caves that were just north of Augablava, and considering the coast is similar for the next ~30 kilometers, there may be a few caves along the cliffs that you can visit. Ask the person from whom you rent the kayak.
