More about Golden Taurus Park Resort
best holiday ever
yes its been over a year since we were last at the golden taurus park resort, but as my daughter had exams, we had to put our holiday on hold until August 2007, ( not long now).
this is going to be our 11th time at this hotel, so we know all the good pionts about this hotel-: here goes
The hotel was refurnished for the opening of 2006, new pools 3 of them 2 new terraces for eating or chilling out in the sun.
The rooms are cleaned daily and clean towels, the rooms have t.vs, hair dryers, and plenty of storage, and a clean balcony.
The food is great plenty of choices, pancakes our our favourite, and on mondays they have spanish themed and chinese, there great.
The entertainment is FANTASTIC, plenty to do and lots of diploma's to win. KELLI has been there years before we started coming, she is our close friend.
Thomson staff are fab too, but we dont use the kids club as my daughter is too old, but they do all get together and do a show, think it is on a monday, friday thomsons day off.
If you want to go to BARCELONA, take the train from pineda, its only about 6euro return for a adult and 3 for a child, it takes 1hr and well worth it, at least you can go back to the hotel when ever you want to.
We have met friends from when we first started going in 1999, and still keep in touch, its great to see them every year in may, so in august, we will not know any one, but everyone is so friendly, the hotel staff are fantastic even when you try and speak the lingo,
well I hope this is some use to you when you read this, we are going back in the next few days, so hooray hooray for a happy holiday,
we call it home sweet home.
Rooms are not at all sound proof
We mainly enjoyed our stay at this large hotel with brilliant facilities, lots of pools and sun beds, kids playground and pets corner, internet corner, games tables/machines, good food and shop plus hairdressers on the premises. The entertainment was mostly good and it was all included in the half board, (unlike our hotel last year which charged extra for the theme nights). Unfortunately the Golden Taurus Park's bedrooms let it down very badly. I'm not talking about the decor or the views (both were good) but the fact that you can hear EVERYTHING through the walls and ceiling. You can hear what your neighbours are saying, what they are doing (including in bed and in the bathroom), you can hear every draw opening, chairs scraping not to mention televisions. There was also some free 'entertainment' at 4 am one morning due to a mega row between a group of people which went on for an hour in the corridors until the police were called in to break it up.
The hotel staff were lovely, especially when I had my purse stolen (on the train by pick-pockets, so beware if you do travel by train) a special mention for Kellie here who was very helpful and supportive when we really needed it.
The Thomson staff worked tirelessly to keep everyone entertained day and night but I agree with what someone else said about the welcome meeting, perhaps they should cross over the adults meeting with the families meeting, so we get to hear about all the trips properly instead of in kiddy-speak. Would like to have heard about the Monserrat trip for instance but Sarah afterwards said that the kids would not be interested. Actually, mine might have been.
You could do worse than stay at this hotel, depends how much you value your privacy/peace and quiet. If you can happily dispense with those for one or two weeks then this hotel is good value for money.
exellent hotel for kids - value for money
This is the second time we have stayed at the Golden Taurus (me, my husband and our girls who are 2 and 4) and we wasn't disapointed. The hotel is great for famlies with young children - they cater for all your needs. We will be booking to go back next year!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Animation Entertainers Superb
Spent 2 weeks at the Golden Taurus, myself, hubby and our four kids ages 6, 10, 14 & 16. We all enjoyed it and missing the place already. Lovely clean hotel right throughout, ok food on some nights though breakfast was quite nice every morning. We found the supermarket just around the corner a godsend regarding the prices of drinks, snacks etc as they are quite pricey in the hotel. Everything was good like the pools, we used the indoor one the couple of days that the sun didnt shine but the weather was pleasant enough for most of our stay. We all came home with tans anyway. We only went to the beach once as it was rough on our feet but we didnt really have to leave the hotel. Our youngest got involved with the thomson reps a bit, they were great. But the highlight of our holiday i have to say was the Golden Animation Team. They made our holiday to be honest. They entertained us all for the whole fortnight. Maike, Peter, Ana & Maria you,re the best. Thanks for a great time. We,d definately return there again.
Good Position family hotel
We went in 2006 on a cheapy deal and so weren't expecting a lot just sun and sea and so weren't disappointed (although if sand had been on the list we would have been as this is sharp and uncomfortable). The hotel is clean and large and something akin to a modern day holiday camp, I notice the deals to this part of Spain are extremely cheap this year 2007 and if you are getting one of these then I dont think you'll be disappointed. The rooms are clean, with bathrooms and TV although the English language channels are very limited. The evening entertainment looked dire so we didn't partake. The Food was edible and plentiful, the pools clean but when we were there in September full of kids or macho Brit men showing off their sporting prowes or lack of it. The town is pleasant, we recommend you take the little train into the shopping areas (both ends of the journey) this is a cheap trip. Also Barcelona is a cheap real train ride away but beware buy tickets from the machine the human will stiff you ! we paid for returns but got one ways. All in all we wouldn't go back to this area as it's not that great but for a cheapy one off experience you could, I'm sure, do a lot worse.,
Excellent value for money
Had a fantastic weeks holiday with my son aged 6. Hotel was clean and well run, rooms cleaned daily, fresh towels etc. Balcony spotless. Great entertainment, pools are lovely, however, I cannot understand people complaining about outdoor pools being too cold, surely a blessing when the weather is hot, but each to their own I suppose. Overall service was excellent, in restaurant, bars, poolside bars, reception etc. Alcholic drink prices very reasonable, soft drinks, ice cream and crisps etc, not so cheap, the hotel have a policy of no food or drink to be consumed on premises if not purchased there, however, a can of coke 2eu from hotel, 45cent from supermarket opposite, adds up when you have kids.
The food was excellent, I stayed HB, always plenty on offer, and never ran out, good variety.
Marineland worth a visit, free bus provided. Land train good value, running from Calella to Pineda, every 15 minutes.
The beach at Pineda is very nice and clean, however it is not suitable for small children as there is sheer drop a few feet out, and they would be seriously out of their depth if not good swimmers.
The only gripe was, on my last day, I went for breakfast at 9.45am, before having to vacate the room at 11.00am, returned to room at 10.30 to find the maid already in there cleaning, with all my last minute belongings gathered up, I couldnt find my padlocks for case that Id left on dresser, I discovered she had put them in my hand luggage bag, but not till I got home, so I was a bit miffed at being rushed out of room.
Apart from that I had a lovely stay, and would have no hesitation in returning.
Best 3* hotel I have ever stayed in
Just returned from a 4 night stay with my wife and 2 daughters (2 & 1).
Hotel and rooms are clean
Great children's entertainment (Thomson & Hotel teams)
Great pools (although a bit cold for the first couple of minutes until you get used to it)
Service was excellent and efficient
Prices for drinks & food are reasonable
Supermarket 2 minutes away
The food was good although not always as hot as it could be
Beach was OK and clean
Children's playground - biggest children's slide I have ever seen but still very safe
Friendly staff (apart from 1 grumpy waiter)
Not so good...
Sound proofing of rooms is very poor (although our 2 little ones probably made more noise than next door - sorry!)
Rooms are too small - we had to climb into bed from the end as 3 single beds and a cot covered the entire wall
Mini Zoo - smelly and full of forlorn looking chickens
A one week would be my limit here but we will definately return again for a short break. I personaly wouldn't return if I didn't have children.
Okay, but not great
The hotel itself is fine. It's official rating is 3 star and based on the size of the rooms, decor and cleanliness it more than lives up to it. I travelled with my parents (in their 50's), my husband, my four year old son and my six month old daughter.
Location wise the hotel is between Pineda and Calella. Both are pleasant little towns to visit, not just full of tourist tat shops either which makes a pleasant change. There is a little road train which stops right outside the hotel and takes you to either town. There are a few bars nearby, but we didn't visit any of them so I cannot comment on them. One thing to be aware of is that the hotel is very close to the main railway line. The trains are quite regular and can be heard clearly from the rooms at the back of the hotel overlooking the two pools, even with the door closed. Although this didn't ruin our holiday, we weren't made aware of this fact by the tour operator and felt that we should really have been informed. There are two train stations one in Pineda and one in Calella, you can catch the train from either station to Barcelona for about 6 Euros return and it takes about an hour. It's well worth a visit.
Although the hotel itself is okay, we were rather disappointed with the holiday as a whole. There are no fridges in the rooms, which wouldn't be as bad if you're not travelling with really young children but my daughter is bottle fed and I was unable to keep her feeds chilled once made up. As the hotel geared up for families I find this strange. There is loud music on by the larger of the two pool areas from around 10am until 7pm, which could be heard clearly in the rooms. Not good for lightsleeping children if they are having a snooze in the day. The evening entertainment was also loud and right by our room (we were on the first floor). The entertainment continues until 12.30am, which is fine if you're in the bar and want to watch it but not if you want to go to sleep before then. There are several other bars with entertainment on at night and having spoken with other guests the noise from these bars can be heard in rooms by them too. The walls between the rooms and corridor are very thin so beware of drunken revellers returning at night and people coming in on late flights.
Although the indoor pool is meant to be heated I found it to be only mildly warmer than the outdoor unheated pool. The water also appeared to be dirty. The outdoor pools were okay, bit cold but that's half the fun of them.
My son only attended the Mini Club on the last day, but he had a lovely time. He didn't take part in any of the Thompson clubs. The playground was good, however there is grit on the floor round it and children kept slipping on it and grazing themselves.
The food was okay, a little limited for vegetarians and fussy children. My son only ate chips most nights. There were no fish fingers, beans, sausages etc that you would expect on a childrens buffet. There are plenty of highchairs in the dining room, although some of them look like they could do with a really good clean and there are taller chairs for toddlers/young children to sit on.
I wouldn't recommend this hotel for couples or older travellers and people who are travelling with families but enjoy a slightly quieter more relaxed holiday.
Possibly the noisiest hotel in the world!!!
This is a very good hotel, and is deserving of the mostly good reviews. It is very clean and well run. It has very good warm food, with a decent selection for vegetarians. The kids club is good, but sometimes full, so your kids are unable to get in. However, people should be aware that it is far from perfect. It's not close to anything, it is 20 mins walk from Pineda and Calella. It is not exactly "right on the beach". You will have to cross a busy main road and a railway line. The indoor swimming pool is freezing cold. There is a little zoo, which at first I thought was a nice idea, but the animals are very cramped and look thoroughly miserable. My operator described it as exclusively for British tourists. I met American, Spanish, French and German people staying there. Personally, I enjoy a good mix of nationalities, however brochures should be truthful. The evening entertainment was possibly the worst I have ever seen. I can't put it into words! Simply dire!
However, the worst thing about this hotel is that it is unbelievably noisy. There is external noise from the railway (4 mainline trains every hour). There is not one quiet room in the complex - impossible to relax. The walls are very thin . There is constant noise from 7a.m. right through till 3 a.m. the next morning.
It wasn't a holiday from hell, but I was glad to get home to relax!!!
This is a lovely hotel. Very clean. Excellent selection of food.
Staff very friendly, nothing is too much trouble.
It is also in an excellent location, not far from the train station.
Where can I find good information about Calella??
I visited so many websites (spain.info, www.spain-travel-guide.net, okspain.org, calella.com etc etc) but it's been impossible... Can u rec?? thanks!!!!
Re: Where can I find good information about Calella??
Welcome to VT!
You could start by looking at the VT pages/info/tips:
They are written by both locals and those VT-ers who have visited.
Re: Where can I find good information about Calella??
I'm guessing it's this Calella, http://www.calellabarcelona.com/
if it isn't and you mean Calella de Palafrugell , let us know.
