La Verge de La Misericordia (the Madonna of the Compassion) is the benefactor saint of El Maresme. This church was built on Neo-gothic style, by the end of XIX century. Interesting for those interested on religious art and traditions.

"Not only beaches"

So, what you can do there?... in one word: walking. The town old centre is pleasant to wander around. There is a surprising amount of houses built on the Modernista style (Catalan version of Art Nouveau). Canet de Mar was the workplace and home of Lluis Domenech i Montaner (his best known works are the Palau de la Musica and the Hospital de Sant Pau i la Santa Creu, both in Barcelona). You can see buildings from other excellent architects as well along the street of the old town. The house of Domenech i Montaner is now a museum.

And you can keep walking outside the town. You have a couple of nice possibilities for light hill-walking, and feel the countryside just an hour away from Barcelona.
