La Creu (The Cross)
You may arrive to this point after a pleasant country walk, ask at the city council for directions, and better have a good map with you, as it can be a bit difficult to find the way (I went there with a guided excursion organised by the Friends of Natural Parks' association: Cercle d'Amics dels Parcs Naturals).
The cross has a quite interesting history, as it's the 4th cross erected at this point in the last 120 years! In the end of XIX and beginning of XX Century, Canet’s workers were well known for their Anarchist activity. Local "caciques" built a first cross at this point, at the end of XIX Century; and soon later the anarchists bombed it. The wealthy locals decided to erect an even larger cross, designed this time by Domenech i Montaner (great local Art Noveau architect, famous for some of his buildings in Barcelona (Palau de la Musica, Hospital de Sant Pau, Casa Lleó-Morera, etc ...). Just a few years after, this second cross was destroyed as well (a large piece can be seen at the local museum). A third cross was put up, and it was destroyed during the Civil War. The current one dates from the decade of the 50's and has no real artistic interest, but you can enjoy good views from there.
