something about figueras
by call_me_rhia
Figueras (figueres) is the capital of the Alt Empordà, the area of atalunya which borders with France. Other than the Casa-Museu Salvador Dali, there are also several interesting 18th century houses and a castle (Castell de Sant Ferran) Salvador Dali's museum - which was the reason I decided to visit this little town
Girona

about 30 minuts from Figuera on the way back to Barcelona there is Girona a really pretty small town worth a visist even longer than the short one we had.
Infact there is a really nice cathedral and lot of interesting and yummy food shops.
Teatre Museu Dali
by Mundus
The museum itself its the largest surrealistic object in the world. It occupies the building of the former municipal theater, a 19th century construction which was destroyed at the end of the Spanish Civil War.
Dali said: "Where, if not in my own city, should the most extravagant and solid examples of my art remain, where else then? The municipal theater, or what's left of it, seemed to me to be very appropriate for three reasons: the first, because I am eminently a theatrical painter; the second, because the Theatre is in front of the church where I was baptized; and the third, because it was precisely in the lobby of the theater that I had my first exhibition of paintings".
Opening Hours:
10:30 - 18:00 (from 1st October to 30th June)
09:00 - 20:00 (from 1st July to 30th September)
Closed on 1st January and 25th December and every Monday between 1st October and 30th June (except on holidays and festivals' eves)
strolling in the streets
by Mahieu
The surrounding streets of the Dali museum are very touristy, with lots of restaurants, small shops, ... It's nice to walk around, because some of the streets are nicely decorated with flowers or trees.
This area reminded me a bit of a Belgian seaside resort, where people take the time to get away from the beach for a couple of hours to see what the city has to offer.
Again, Figueres is ok to have a look around, but half a day will be just fine.
La Rambla

What is it with Catalunya and Ramblas? Third city I visit, third time that I find a Rambla. Oh well, you don't hear me complaining, I really like Ramblas :-)
I found the one in Figueres a very nice one, nicer than the one in Girona for example. There isn't a lot going on, just a big "boulevard", with benches on both sides, for people enjoying the sun and chatting. I find this very relaxing and great to have a rest! Long live the Ramblas :-)
