Inside
by Lalique
This's one of the first things a visitor sees inside....
I was just fascinated by that picture, it represents an optical illusion, which is two pictures in one - a portrait of Dali himself and Gala...
There is a kind of telescope aimed at the picture on the second floor, so you can see how this illusion works but I figured it out myself by just looking into my cam viewfinder, voila! The lenses in a camera do the same trick as a telescope....
Castell de Sant Ferran
by Belsaita
The Fortress of Sant Ferran (in Catalan) or San Fernando (Spanish) is an amazing place that most visitors to Figueres do miss. It's the biggest fortress of Catalonia, and one of the biggest of Europe. It was build to defend the place from the French invasions, with impressive walls and buildings, and an amazing underground system of tunnels and cisterns. It could house 6,000 men and 500 horses!!
The building works began in 1753, and the construction work continued into the early 19th century. OK... that's enough for now.... if you're interested, follow the link below, were you'll find much more about its history and current activities there.
There are guided visits, including a boat minitrip around part of the underground huge labyrinth of cisterns! We had a really interesting and fun morning.
If you're interested, you must contact them first to reserve your tour. Otherwise, most times the guided tours are full, and in this case you can only visit a small part of the place by yourselves.
To reach it, once you arrive to the Dali's Museum (you cannot not miss it), just follow a street named "Pujada del Castell" (it means castle's hill, so it's pretty obvious). You will not see the castle until you're quite close by. It's just about 15 min walking from the museum, and about 30-40 min from the train station.

Dali Theater Museum
by kazander
An amazing museum that the surrealist artist, Salvadore Dali created to house his work...as well as his remains! He is buried in the heart of this incredible building. This structure was originally the Figueres theater. After it had been ravaged by a fire, Dali had it rebuilt and redesigned into this museum. Some of his paintings, sculptures, jewelery and installation works are here. There is a surprise at every corner. Don't miss the Mae West room, a 3D interpretation of one of his most famous paintings, it's unbelievable!!! Spend a day admiring his unique vision.
The Dali – Joies collection
by LanaFromRiga
The Dali – Joies collection is on permanent exhibition at the Dali Theatre – Museum in Figueres. Together with the 39 original jewels, the drawings and paintings made by Salvador Dali for the design of each one are also on display, thus making an extraordinary ensemble produced by the artist between 1932 and 1970.
Theatre-Museum Dali - Entrance
by Jeca011
The Dali Theater-Museum was the biggest work of the artist's life. It was originally a The Teatro Principal (Principle Theater), which was built in 1849, but was burnt by Franco's Moroccan soldiers during the Civil War in 1939. Dali reconstructed the building into his amazing museum, which opened in September 28, 1974.
This is entrance in Museum. The sculptures you can see, have a bread on their heads. Dali had an obsession with bread. It's very famous his first arrival in America, when he got off the plane with a bread on his head. There are bread reproductions on all the walls of his museum.
