Hi
We have stayed in The Peninsular two years running. Not luxurious but good breakfast and brilliant position for sightseeing and restaurants.
Friendly and helpful staff.

Travel Tips for Girona

A compact walkable city

by scottishvisitor

We had a day trip to Girona which lies sixty one miles north of its big brother city of Barcelona. Unlike its nieghbour this city is small, very walkable and quiet. If you find yourself in either Barcelona or in my case, on this occassion, the Costa Brava and have a day or two to spare check out the charms of Girona. I did find it a bit strange that the budget airlines will fly you into Girona when your accommodation will be in Barcelona and vice versa. I liked both cities for different reasons but loved the local flavour, quietness and above all the ability to really relax with no worries on personal safety.

One of 3 rivers cross Girona,...

by DPando

One of the 3 rivers that cross Girona, maybe this one so beautiful than others, with balcony over the river (full of fishes)
Some bridges cross the river where you can take gorgeous photos before you enter in a narrow and cool street visiting the jewish quarter

FC Girona

by bonio

A home game for FC Girona against Espanyol II for me to watch, excellent.
Stadium a ten minute walk out of town is not the most modern I've ever visited but has the feel of a real footie ground, enjoyed m visit. The game was a 4-2 win for Girona and very entertaining, two red cards, a penalty, 6 goals and a floodlight failure too, memorable.
In the next day'slocal paper I even managed to see myself in a photo, I thinkl that is a first for me.

FROM GIRONA AIRPORT TO BCN OR GIRONA!!!

by prunila

EVERYONE WHO IS VISITING GIRONA ASK ME ABOUT:

HOW TO GO TO BCN FROM GIRONA AIRPORT???

1) YOU HAVE A DIRECT BUS TO BCN AT GIRONA AIRPORT (RYANAIR BUS).
IT IS A BUS THAT LEAVES AFTER EVERY FLIGHT ARRIVAL.
Buy tickets at the exit, as the airport is very small it is very easy.
YOU'LL ARRIVE AT BCN, AT PASSEIG DE SANT JOAN (central bus station).
THERE YOU CAN TAKE THE METRO (stop Arc de Triomf).

COST -> 8,70 Euros one way
http://www.ryanair.com -> check destinations -> Barcelona/ Girona -> GETTING AROUND
http://www.ryanair.com/dest/images/girona_map.jpg
http://www.ryanair.com/dest/images/barcelona_bus.jpg

––––––––––––––––––––––––––
Other transportation from this airport:

2) IF YOU WANT TO DO A VISIT TO GIRONA:
TAKE A BUS TO GIRONA INSTEAD (RYANAIR BUS). It takes only 20 minuts. Stops at the bus station which is at the side of the train station, Renfe. It is a taxi stop there.

LATER YOU CAN TAKE A TRAIN TO BCN, FIGUERES, … FROM THIS STATION (every hour you have a train to Bcn).
www.renfe.es -> timetables
CHECK WHICH DAY OF THE WEEK THEY WORK. IT IS DIFFERENT TIMETABLE DURING WEEK DAYS OR WEEKENDS. ON SUNDAYS YOU HAVE LESS TRAINS. ALSO CHECK TYPE OF TRAIN.
COST APROX: 6 Euros.

3) TAXI TO GIRONA. Good if your hotel is outside of Girona city for exemple Novotel.

4) BUSES DIRECT TO THE COAST (L'ESTARTIT, BLANES,...)
www.shuttledirect.com

5) RENT A CAR AT GIRONA'S AIRPORT.
Good option to visit other areas, like Costa Brava, Baix Empordà, …

Wide selection of Paellas and Tapas

by chlee1 about Duran Bar

Good location, after the exhausted visits at the Cathedral and Rambla, found this restaurant, which we filled our stomach before the next spot.

Little room inside the restaurant premises but cosy outside.

Wide range of Paella Fideua, nicely cooked noodle with seafood, less than 9 Euro
