It's possible to go by railway to Girona. For this you travel with Renfe Cercanias to Macanet-Massanes, after this you go with the regional train to Girona.

thank you so much for your prompt reply!! :) Do you know how long the journey will take? and also is there much to see or do if we come on sunday for the day?

thank you very much. :)

Re: getting to girona

Calella to Maçanet is around 30 min (Renfe cercanias), and from here to Girona another 25 min (Renfe Barcelona/Girona regional).
Look at www.girona.cat/turisme/eng/activitats.php for some info about the city and what you would like to do and then check about sunday activities.

Travel Tips for Girona

Girona

by AlbertoSalinas

where to stay: PENSIÓN MARGARIT... nothing great or special, but good location fom train&bus station, cheap and friendly hostess

what to visit: have a walk to old town centre, accross the river from the "new" town. streets around the cathedral are worth to see, there's a nice view of the Pyrinees... maybe a good exhibition in Fundación La Caixa. the streets show medieval reminders of the town... nice cafeterias by the river

Catalan

by DPando

Girona is located in northern Catalonia, just 60kms away from the french border.. if visit barcelona without speaking catalan is easy and doesnt entail a problem, Girona is quite different. Expect that everybody talk to you in catalan as a first speech in restaurants, bars or in the streets because the catalan roots are so so deep here.. more even than in Barcelona

Salvador Dali

by teresopinha

If you really want to make this trip unfforgetable, don't miss Salvador Dali's museum. It's located in a small village called Figueres, and it's an amazing museum and the village is very lovely!!
Don't miss it....
