Labyrinths of narrow streets
In place of foot of the Cathedral starts old city with many narrow streets and amazing squares. The summer’s heat is not very pressing there and it makes old cities streets very pleasant for walking.
Maria, a member of VT (Malecka), suggested to me different things for Girona, and for sleeping she suggested to go in this place. In effect it's been a good choice ;) Quite room, good breakfast in the morning, friendly staff.
Unique Quality: Not far from center, 35 euro for a single room with breakfast.

Hi Prunila
Thanks for your tips on Hotels. Your tips on Girona are great!!
I do have another question. I hope to visit the beach for the day next Thursday.
Which town would you reccomend and is the bus or train the best way to travel?
Hi Stuart,
1. The closest and easy to reach is Sant Feliu de Guixols. To go there it is a SARFA bus. The www is on my tips. The beach there it is great. It is a charming small city.
2. One I love it is SANT MARTI VELL. You take a bus to Escala (it is about 1 hour).
There you can visit great ruins: EMPURIES. SARFA bus.
3. You can take a train to LLANÇA (easy to goand cheap!). There is a lot of "virgin" places (without buildings) but you will have to do trekking.
4. … ask more VT'rs :-)))))))
have a great time!!!!!!

We stayed at the Bellmirall - just a few steps from the Cathedral. We thoroughly enjoyed that place, so you might want to try that! For pictures and address, please have a look at my Girona page!
Have a wonderful stay!

We are just back from Girona. We stayed in Hotel Fornells Park- 3 *. It is about 8 kilometers from Girona Airport and is lovely. It is the only hotel in Girona city with a swimming pool. You wake in the morning to the sound of birds singing! The overriding memory of Girona is the beautiful smell of fresh flowers everywhere and of the birds singing. You can get the Ryanair bus to Girona and it stops directly outside Hotel Fornells Park -just ask the driver.
Every evening we went to Girona by bus- about 50 pence Sterling and returned to the Hotel by taxi later on- about 6 pounds Sterling.
Girona city is one of the nicest places we have ever been. Well worth a few days visit at least. There is lots to see and lots of wonderful restaurants- I can recommend some if you are interested.
We stayed for two weeks last year in Barcelona in the suburbs- a small town called Casteldefels. I would really recommend it!
You are 20 mins by air-conditioned train from the center and travel for about 60 pence return!
We stayed in Casteldefels beach which is a small holiday resort where people from Barcelona come to swim. There are lots of restaurants and lovely walks and it is safe at night. Last train from Barcelona at night is at about !0.30pm.
Hope you have a nice time.

Once upon a time, there was a witch in Girona. Well, probably there was more than one, but the most famous was a very, very bad witch. She enjoyed throwing stones at people who attended the processions around the Cathedral.
On the day of Corpus Christi, when she was about to throw a stone, a mysterious voice thundered out across the town saying: “Throw stones, throw stones and stone you will become!” and she became a gargoyle on the Cathedral.
You can see her from the Gardens of "la Francesa", on the back of the Cathedral.
If you are into surrealistic art, you should visit the city of Figueres (Capital of the Emporda region). Figueres is birthplace of Salvador Dali and home to the famous Dali Museum.
After the Prado Museum in Madrid, it is the second most visited Museum in Spain. Figueres is situated about 40 km north of Girona.
Girona isn´t a big city, therefore the old quarter of Girona between the city walls and the river Onyar is best explored on foot. There are many narrow, steep alleyways and lanes and ancient stone houses which can be enjoyed on a stroll.
We finally went to new town where we found a bar-restaurant where paella was serve for 7.50eur each (a bargain) and a quite good one !! we avoided the lower old town because a normal menu costs around 9 eur but just there the fare was 12 eur.. !! so expensive for a menu.. maybe its nicer but extremmely expensive for a menu.. so just take a look around and choose..
