Don't Visit on a Monday
by mstinawu
Most people will only visit Girona for only a day trip or overnight trip so usually they want to take in all the sights of the city while they are there. I went for two nights and it was nice to see the city quiet and sleepy and pretty much shut down after 2pm, but I have to admit I was getting bored of reading all day after that time on a Monday
Santa Narcis and his flies!!
by scottishvisitor
Santa Narcis or Saint Narcissus is the Patron Saint of Girona. Back in 1285 a siege involving French troops took place near the Church in Girona where the would be invaders entered the Church. Opening the tomb of the Saint they unwittingly released a plague of flies which poisoned the soldiers and their horses causing them to flee and abondon the attack on Girona. A free festival honouring Santa Narcis still takes place today featuring many cultural events culminating in people running through the narrow streets with fireworks. The festival is held in Placa del Vi and its surrounding streets during 29th. October to 3rd. November. My visit was one week before but Moira my travel companion had seen it during her last visit.
Gimnàs Girona... BEST gym
by Malecka
January 2006 was the magical moment in time when my life was changed after setting a foot in Gimnàs Girona.
A fantastic gym, located close to the train station, or more precisely Plaza Europa...
Very well equipped, great staff and awesome classes: body combat (my personal favourite), body attack, body jam, steps, spinning... lots more. Great for those who are not fans of classes as well.
...
And, on October 4th 2008 we all celebrated its 7th Anniversary and I was part of it, thrilled to be able to celebrate this gym's birthday.
If you are staying for a while in Girona and want some work out, don't miss out on this wonderful place.
To Girona by train
by HORSCHECK
I went to Girona by train from Barcelona. There are more than 25 trains per day between Girona and Barcelona from 6:00 am to 9:30 pm.
Depending on the type of train a trip takes between 1 and 2 hours and costs between 5 and 6 EURO.
The train station of Girona is located at Placa Espanya and can be reached on foot from the centre in about 15 mins.
Did you say TAPAS???
by Malecka about Lizarran
I just love Lizarran's tapas. They make a little bit of everything, the interior is really cosy and comfy, has a great view towards the Old town and they play good music.
...
the tapas served are also suitable for vegetarians... well, at least a part of the offer.
Highly recommended... located at Plaça de Independencia... the cheese-&-peppers croquettes. And the pinchos with pate made from black olives.
... and their "patatas bravas".
See, that particular dish, patatas bravas, is quite a famous product almost everywhere in Spain, and this sometimes can be a disadvantage. Why? Well, because people know that "patatas bravas" is sort of a brand, many people who come here have heard about it and inevitably order. So, in many places they are not exactly good. (I have tried some BAD versions of patatas bravas).
The ones served in Lizarran, in my opinion, are the BEST I have tried. And they have NEVER disappointed me.
