Hotel Riomar: Sant Marti d'Empuries accomodation

St Marti is a 40 minute walk from L'Escala. It's a little village just next to the ruins of Empuries. We stayed at the Riomar hotel's self-catering apartments and they were ideal for a quiet relaxing break with sun and swimming. The hotel is right next to a wide sandy beach, but has the added advantage of a swimming pool for the frequent windy days you get on the Costa Brava. The beach is very long and (in June) reasonably quiet. Further down the beach, there is a kite-surfing school, and near the hotel is a nice beach bar which serves delicious hot sandwiches.

We didn't try the hotel's restaurant, but we visited the bar most nights for a game of pool and one of the good range of cocktails.

The hotel is family run, so we were happy to overlook the fact that the decor is a little tired. We got the impression that everything was well maintained, and when we had a small problem, they got it fixed quickly and efficiently.

Overall, it's not a boutique experience, but the location and facilities are excellent. I'll try to add a couple of tips on how to get there and what to do in the area.
