great time at sunrise
just returned from a great all inclusive stay at the sunrise hotel. the hotel was spotless and the food was good with lots of choice and food. it was well presented and the servery kept clean.the tables were cleared as soon as you finished with your plate. the rooms were spotless and cleaned daily we had 3 adults in our room and there was plenty of space and we overlooked the pool which unfortunately did not use due to the weather not the pool the pool was very clean. the indoor pool was clean but a bit small to accomodate everyone as the weather was cold. there were lots of english people staying at the hotel and the staff comunicated well in english we would go back to this hotel and will recommend it to friends and family.
Not what we expected to say the least!!!!
Booked a last minute deal for 5 days to The Sunrise Hotel. Read reviews on trip advisor and they seemed mixed so went with an open mind just looking forward to a few days relaxing in the sun. Two of us brothers were going aged 23 and 26 and were under the impression the hotel was an 18-30 on an all inclusive basis.
Booked via internet with company called Sun 4 U and flew with Ryan air. Flight uneventful but when we reached the other end there was no rep to meet us and was informed at Ryan air desk there was no more coaches for another couple of hours.Luckily some other airlines rep took pity on us and arranged for us to be transported on her coach which was much appreciated.
At the hotel check in we were allocated our all inclusive wrist bands and were told to sign a document stating that if we broke anything we would pay for it!! Our room was basic but clean. Meals were buffet style with just one restaurant, the food was limited in choice and drinks were only obtainable one at a time per person and were questioned how long ago we had the last drink! - so much for all inclusive!!! There was one outdoor swimming pool and one indoor, the water in the jacuzzi was brown and not inviting, the sauna didnt work either. There appeared to be a limited amount of entertainment, so you may have to look outside the resort so take extra money and consider security.
Within 36 hours of leaving home, believe it or not, we were back home. On the second evening we had met a group of English people and were having a drink in the bar until the all inclusive finished at 11 pm , we all decided to go out clubbing and then to an Irish bar. We then returned to the hotel where were greeted by security who told to keep the noise the down even though we were`nt particularly making a lot of noise compared with some Germans playing football at 4.00 am which had been reported to us!!!
One of us returned to our room and could hear some shouting, I looked out the door to see what was happening and couldnt see anything so returned to our room. Shortly later I went to look for my brother and was attacked from behind by an unknown person and was repeatedly punched, it turned out to be a member of the hotel security. This was a totally unprovoked and undeserved attack and when my brother caught up with me he was also assaulted by the same person. We ran to the safety of a fire exit and shut the door which was then kicked in by the guy and we had to pay 100 euros for the damage to the door. We were held to blame for this and the language barrierr was a real problem.
We were told to leave the hotel and were not even able to collect all our belongings. It was the middle of the night, in a foreign country where we didnt speak the language, were very vulnerable, had both received injuries which we did not deserve and had to get to the airport and try and get home. It cost an additional 606 euros to fly home.
As we had got the national express coach we had to pay additional fees to change our tickets to get us home. We both visited our local hospital and our injuries confirmed.
Well taking all into account, the amount this holiday cost and the aggrevation we received, we could have gone to the caribbean for a couple of weeks and still be there having a ball, catching some sun and some good holiday memories.
In summary of the Sunrise Hotel, the hotel was basic, the staff rude and unfriendly and the security.....well, make your mind up for yourselves. We hope nobody goes through what we did as no one deserves that, it would pay the hotel to remember that tourists are what keeps them in business and they need to make people feel welcome and most of all safe.
No problems, a pleasant time from a 21 yr old.
Booked it 5 days before on teletext. True we got dropped off down the street because only the bus couldn't physically fit down the streets to bring us there. How lazy can you get though?
Walking up and down the road was fine, we get to see the local neighborhood, and the location of the hotel was nice as it is on a higher altitude compared to many others, with a great view of the town and beach.
The rooms - clean and simple, good sized balcony. Beds were soft and room gets a little warm from the radiator. We stayed on 5th floor in the corner, it was generally quiet. Though the door connecting between rooms is thin, you can hear your neighbor talking, good thing they were a nice family though. The room door was also thin, you can easily hear the corridor. But it was generally quiet.
The food - I didn't expect gourmet food, it's a 3* place, and it's a touristy hotel so I imagined it to accommodate for the English/general customers.
It's almost the same everyday, but it's still surprisingly better than I expected. There is something slightly new each day. But generally chips, pork, veal, pasta. There were definitely some good new things that I liked each time.
At the restaurant you get unlimited house wine, red white, soda, bottled water. I couldn't complain much about the restaurant, the manager always greeted us with a very kind tone. Everyday he wears the very same orange tie.
The staff - No problems with them either except for the little bits of the language barrier. At the restaurant 2 girls/1 guy always collected our unwanted dishes and simple 'thank you' is needed to show your appreciation. The reception, a woman spoke fluid english and showed us how to get to the bus station for a direct ride to Barcelona.
The hotel- Met a couple who returned after a few years to the very same hotel. They liked it, and we liked it. I would come back, but I wish there'd be more of some type of entertainment around the hotel or the area instead of hitting the bar after dinner. Not much to do to entertain yourself when the pool/sauna/turkish bath (which is very nice but small, went in almost every day) close at 8pm. This hotel surprisingly was a better experience than expected as on the bus ride there some of the hotels the other customers stayed at didn't look too appealing at all, given the condition of the buildings and location. I recommend Sunrise Hotel and maybe also Guitar Central Park (I believe it's called that, when we dropped off some people, it looked real posh).
The outdoor pools were nice, (the whole back yard/garden was nice) with the view of the beach. too bad the weather wasn't hot enough.
I've recently stayed in this hotel for 3 days for a late year break. The hotel itself was clean and the rooms were fine however the staff were not exactly friendly. I had paid for all inclusive but the food was awful. They only seemed to serve under cooked pork and chips!!!!. I ate in the hotel on my first night and had severe stomach problems for the rest of the 3 days. I complained but this seemed to make no difference.
If you are wanting an all inclusive holiday don't book here. If however you are booking room only you'll be fine.
Also this hotel is not friendly to people with walking difficulties as its on a hill and is not easily accessible.
I stayed there for a looong week. The room was not air conditioned and when we asked for one, ready for pay for it, we got the answer from the "fraulein", who dominated the lobby that we could sleep on the balkony. We did get another room after two days but the fraulein demanded that we checked out of our previous rooms and left our luggage in the open lobby (in Spain??) for several hours before we could check into our new rooms.
There are a LOT of steps everywhere, up to the cantine, down to the lobby, up to the elevators and down to the garden. If you want to go downtown you have to walk 128 steps from the lobby to the nearest street.
The rooms were not so bad but you should be wary of the question about the air condition. And the room service was different from all other service, very fine indeed.
The food was "wholesale", a lot to choose form and fill the stomach but the pleasure to eat it was none. And it seemed to us that you had to be in friendship with the receptionist to get the best vine with the food.
In short. To go there you have to be in top shape and willing to tolerate bad service and attitude.
You get what you pay for so why all the moaning?!!?
Im a travel agent in england, i have been to all kinds of hotels in the past from 5* to 1*. when booking this hotel in sept 07, i went on to TA to have a look at the reviews, it was voted number 1 out of them all!! when reading the good reviews i felt relaxed!! when arriving to the hotel, we got drop off at the bottom of a very steep hill!! (at the front enterance to the hotel) after a good 20 mins of trying to cart my case up it, we arrived!! the first impression i had of the hotel was very nice and clean.
the staff (of dear!!) they seem friendly when we aproached them, as soon as they knew you were english they didnt seem to make an effort or be bothered!! apart from the recp staff everyone else was friendly enough!!
we stayed at this hotel on all inc basis, yes you had to queue up for drinks and that you was only allowed two drinks per person per time but how many drinks do you need to drink in one sitting??... the bar staff are soo funny!! i think they know more english than they let on!! the food... salad bar, and buffet, the food was ok there was nothing fantastic about it ,but there was nothing that didnt like.
there was some people moaning about the lack of choice at meal times, but to be honest with you, they would go in the rest and not come out untill they was ready to bust!!
location - there was two entrance to the hotel front and back, the back entance is the most used, as the hill will at the front, the hotel its self is located 5 mins walk to the beach, 10 mins walk to the center. on the way into town there is a irish pub which is good all ages, (they do happy hour from 10.30 till 1 amand the drinks are very cheap) which is good because the hotels all inc finishes at 11 pm.
all in all i would go back to the hotel, we didnt pay that much for it, it is just a basis clean 3* hotel, if people are moaning about the size, the bar, the food then my advise is the spend more money on your hoilday, rather than spending it on computer and writing that you only spent about £200 on a holiday DONT THESE PEOPLE NOT KNOW YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR???
Get What you Pay For
Stayed in this hotel 29th March 2008. Hotel is very basic in need of decoration (rag rolling on all the walls) its very clean, rooms were clean but again basic. No entertainment and the bar is big but if you have all inclusive you have to queue up in 1 place and will not be served at any other part of the bar. Food was ok if you don't mind chips everyday, breakfast was discusting we had a tomato mess a potato/pastry thing and frankfurter sausages streaky bacon. I tried food a couple of times but it did not improve so me and my husband ate out. I recommend the steak house EL Greco that was nice and the crepes sold outside restaurants are very nice too. Overall ok would not go back to this hotel. As a resort its busy visited Tossa de Mar which is prettier and I would look to stay next time.
Overrun with German teenagers!
The hotel was clean, the pool was nice although it was a little chilly to actually swim. The rooms were nice and clean and rather spacious with a nice little balcony. The food was pretty much the same everyday and quite bland, we ended up eating out just for a bit of variety. The all inclusive bar was cool, but there were often lengthy ques, when we arrived you were allowed to get two drinks at a time but halfway through the week they changed it to one at a time which made the ques even longer. So we ended up going to the pub as we couldn't be bothered with the ques. Hotel staff were friendly and it is a great value for money holiday. The hotel is in a great location, very close to the beach, bars, restaurants and shops.
The only thing that spoilt it was the huge amount of German teenagers running riot in the hotel, they were there as part of a school/college trip. There were 40-50 complaints made to managment by guests but they still carried on running riot. We were told this was because the hotel has a contract with the school and they don't want to lose it so they wouldn't kick them out. They were really noisy, constanlty shouting and slamming doors. An elderly couple had a knife pulled on them and I was spat on from the balcony above. They kept trying to walk into our room, which got annoying and intimidating. Many people were moved to another part of the hotel which was far quieter. I even attempted to talk to one of the teachers of the group but unfortunatly he was drunk and refused to believe the teenagers were doing anything wrong, even the hotel staff were frustrated. I would not recomend this hotel to familys and elderly people simply due to the amount of teenagers there and the vast amount of steps all around the hotel. Although I don't think the teenagers are there all year round. Inspite of all of that we still had a great cheap and cheerful holiday, although the only thing that ruins this hotel is the German teenagers and the hotels inability to do anything about them!
Spend All Your Holiday Queing For 1 Drink At A Time
If you want to spend all your holiday queing for your drink and staying sober this is the hotel for you. WHILE WE WAS THERE THE MANAGEMENT CHANGED THE ALL-INCLUSIVE TO 1 DRINK PER PERSON PER TIME. With only ever 1 bar man serving the all-inclusive quests which is on one side of the bar and the que always about 20 people deep you never have time to spend with your family. In my case we have a 2 year old so while i was queing for my drink and the wife looking after her, afterwards i had to then que again for mine and so on and so on. ALSO IF YOU HAVE A WHEEL CHAIR OR PUSHCHAIR THERE ALWAYS NEED 2 OF YOU TO CARRY IT UP AND DOWN STAIRS (THERE ARE NO SLOPES JUST LOADS OF STEPS)
