Orlando in Spain!
We stayed for a week on half board basis with First Choice. We were not disappointed. The hotel was great, especially the pool area, largest we had been to, the kids especially loved it and lots of life guards all the time so very safe. Food was pretty good, lots of choice but some of the dishes could have been hotter. In the brochure it said there was a charge for cooked breakfast but not at all when we were there. Rooms clean and big enough although a fridge would have been useful. Entertainment was pretty much the same every night but my boys loved it and met up with their friends after dinner. The park was really good, better than we thought we could go in as many times as we wanted and used our room keys as our passes. We also had express past which put us to the front of the queue on the best rides. When we were there (just out of season) there were no real queues anywhere. We have been to florida and would say that it is pretty much up the standards of Universal Orlando (although better simulator rides in Orlando). All in all for what we paid and what we were expecting it was great and we would definately recommend staying at the El Paso (above the other two theme park hotels) and will definately have a return trip. We also took a day & night trip to Barcelona arranged through our rep and this was fantastic. - well recommended.
Not the best but not the worst,ok for adults
Just arrived back from the el paso and am somewhat dissapointed with this hotel .
Firstly this park is not owned by Universal studios directly but by a French company who bought the rights to use the Universal name. This information can be found from the Port adventura website.
This was my first trip to Europe as i usally holiday in in Florida Orlando, L.A and i have also stayed in Japan and Austraila,I can not even compare this Theme park to the Other ones i have visited my seven year old wanted to come home because after a couple of days, maybe the constant rain didn't help.
the theme park is about the same size as drayton manor or camelot so there is only so much you can do before you have done it all.
very strict on height so not many ride for smaller children to go on.
The hotel was clean and the food was quite good although not very hot.
The swimming pool was clean and maned by life guards but closes at 5.pm in the winter and at 6pm in the summer.
The water park coste carribe looks good but the outside part closes on the 31st september and only the indoor part is open, which could have done with a good clean.
hotel drinks can be quite expensive .
Entertainment the same mini outdoordisco dances for the kids every night followed by some rubbish acts which are repeated weekly.
hotel tv programmes are mainly in spanish the only english programmes are bbc world news and cnn.so can get a bit boring
small children maybe scared in October because they are really big on halloween and have have chracters like Freddy krugger going round and the Pink panther with a plastic blood stained knife stabbing at adlults and kids.
Maybe a week would be better than 14 days
Many Highs, Some Lows
Returned to the El Paso after having a fantastic time there in 2002. As a result we had high expectations which were only partially met.
First the positives :- There is no doubt the location of the El Paso is fantastic for anyone with children looking to visit Portaventura Theme Park which is only a 10 minute stroll away. The hotel was themed for halloween and you can't help but get caught up in the atmosphere; the ghost walk was fantastic for adults and characters roam the maze at night which was great fun for the kids. The nightly shows were also good for younger children but didn't change much night to night and would benefit from a little variety. We didn't get to try 'Hotel Burn' but what we could see looked like it would be fantastic for adults.
The Universal Express Fast Pass which allows hotel guests to skip some ride queues was excellent mid-week but isn't available on all rides and the system changes on a weekend. On these days you have to queue for an Express Ticket with an allocated time slot. Although I have seen similar at Disney Parks the fact these Express Tickets are still only available to Hotel guests makes you wonder what the point is. Anyone can buy special express packages (wrist band) and they don't have to queue for a time slot, so there seems little benefit on these days of being a hotel guest.
Unfortunately, there were more negatives on this visit to the Hotel :-
The bar was extremely overcrowded on a night, and with no real alternatives unless you wanted to venture away from the hotel (not ideal with small children). It seemed understaffed, and you would sometimes have to queue for in excess of 20 minutes before getting served. Seating was very limited, with only 17 tables inside the bar area - and if this is what it is like in October it can only be much worse in Peak Season.
On this visit, the bedroom we were given was extremely noisy at night and early morning (up until about 1am and starting again at about 6am), probably due to the fact that we were close to the lift and stairs (I would recommend requesting a quiet room elsewhere). The air conditioning was set to only blow out warm air rather than to cool the room. Although Reception informed me that the air conditioning was faulty the Rep later told us that it was a deliberate decision on the hotel's part to switch to warm air for the winter, regardless of what the temparature actually was. This basically meant you had no air conditioning overnight which made it extremely uncomfortable as we couldn't open the windows because of the frequent train service nearby.
We stayed on half board and there was a fair amount of food choices available, although you had to go early to avoid queueing for about an hour.
Overall, to give a balanced review we would say that we did have a great time on this holiday with many reasons to want to go again, the kids loved the park and the halloween theming. However, there were negatives that could easily have been addressed.
We love the El Paso
my family and i visited the EL paso at the end of may last year for 11 nights. We booked the package with Thomson holidays which included half board. we all found the hotel fantastic the pool, staff, food ect was first class the rooms were clean and of a good size, the only problem we did have was with the room safe which wouldn't open, but it was rectified quickly by the reception. The theme park was a lovely 5 min walk up a tree lined path/road and the only traffic was the road train from the Hotel Caribe & Salou we found that the theme park was execlent, clean (just because it is part of the Universal group that it will be like those in the U.S or Japan) the best part of our holiday was the Costa Caribe water park which we visited 5 time during our stay the kids loved it. my advise to any visitor is go at the end of may begining of June as the parks were very quite.
had a fantastic time
we had a fantastic holiday at the elpaso and cant wait to go back.rooms nice, food very good, theme park excellent.halloween theme in hotel brilliant.go enjoy.
HOLIDAYS IN SALOU
"HOTEL JAIME I IN SALOU"
We went to Salou in the beginning of June and stayed in this hotel for 1 night in half-board (dinner and breakfast). It is located on the central area of Salou, where you can find many souvenirs. This hotel has a nice outdoor pool with a waterfall, a bar near to it, and a stage (at night you can assist a singer’s performance or music it will be played). It also has an indoor bar; a big room with a Plasma TV and Internet; shops; one room, where you can play several games.
The rooms are clean, have a TV Satelite (we stayed in 3 hotels, but only this one had a Portuguese TV- RTP1). However, I think the hotel is a bit noisy - we didn´t sleep very well, because in the middle the night (4 or 5 a.m.) a crazy portuguese has screemed for more than half an hour - he must be drunk.
In what concerns food, we didn´t like it at all (yet there was a great variety). It wasn´t tasty. Besides, for a bottle of water we paid 1,60€ (we though we will not pay for the meal, but all the drinks must be paid, except for the milk shakes). It is usually on this area, in all hotels, including the 4 stars, to charge you for the drinks at lunch and dinner, even in full board.
For safety, we decided to leave our car on the hotel parking and for it we paid 10€, more than in a 4 star hotel (for instance, in Hotel H10 Salauris Palace**** you pay only 5€).
The main purpose of our visit, was to go to Port Aventura. You mustn´t miss it. We really do love it. We stayed in the Hotel El Paso**** for 2 nights, which give access to both parks (Port Aventura and Caribe Aquatic Park) for 3 days, as well as access to the Universal Express Pass, that allows you to go to the best attractions without waiting (Grand Canyon Rapids; Dragon Khan; Stampida; Tren de la Mina; Sea Odyssey; To Tu Ri Splash; Templo del Fuego). This pass will also allows you to pay for meals and souvenirs without using money – before going to these parks, you must activate it on the hotel’s reception. Besides all the attractions, there also some shows – our favourite ones are: The Can Can Show; Fiesta Mariachi - in the Cantina; and the Fort Frenzee.
HAVE FUN and Don´t forget to take your SUN LOTION!
We also visited Barcelona: The Sagrada Família; the Cathedral; and a big street, where you can find many people selling flowers, reviews, paintings of the Spanish famous painters, portraists; outdoor bars; and some people dressed as “toreros”, “sevillanas”, “Winnie the Pooth”, “Che Guevara”, “Reclyced man”, and so one. There you can find many beautiful old monuments.
WATCH OUT: someone in a scooter flated one of our tyres (later on we concluded he had cut it with a knie while we were stopped on the traffic lights) and then asked us if we needed a mechanic!! Of course the mechanic must be himself or a friend.
salou in may
we are thinking pf travelling to salou in may -whats the weather like ?

Re: salou in may
About your questions, in may the weather is warm in salou. And as the hotel concerns, here's a web where you can see a photo, it's in english too.
I hope you have a nice stay in my country.
Re: salou in may
hi, went to salou last may. excellant place could not fault it. food out of this world all you can eat at every sitting. just got back from benidorm yesterday and weather is very hot even went in outdoor pool, but not sea. did not need cardi in evenings.don`t know what horror stories could possibly be. we had fantastic time have booked again in september for week. costa caribe excellant has large indoor pools as well. entertainment at el paso was fantastic last may. reps were brilliant with kids and adults alike. shows put on by hotel was very good. only thing is they did not like you to put towels/clothes over balcony to dry, and inflatables not allowed in pool.you will have an excellant holiday i promise.
