PORT AVENTURA

Salou is in did a good place to have a seven days vacation.Yet the main reason that took me there is obviously , port aventura, a great theme park with lots of entertainment and shows all day and night.Closing with water and fire show, making the a perfect end of a perfect day.

No trip to Salou would be complete without spending a day at the Port Aventura theme park. Just a short bus ride away from the main town, Port Aventura is divided into several different themes, so you can visit Imperial China and Aztec Mexico all in the same day!

There's something for everyone here. Don't be put off by the images of the famous Dragon Khan rollercoaster (I didn't go on it!!!) there are plenty of tamer attractions. There are even a couple of shows, one is called Templo de Fuego and is a fire show in the dark (probably not suitable for very young children), another is a Wild West Show with cowboys, stunts, explosives and horses etc.

All good fun if you enjoy theme parks.

Port Aventura Theme Park

Port Aventura is a large theme park just outside Salou, it has all the main "big" rides, plus , children's rides and lots of live shows. You really need to plan your way around this site to fit in all it has to offer.
Note, the times of the shows you wish to see, and the areas they are in, get there in good time as the theatres soon fill up.
The disabled and senior citizens can get in at a reduced rate as some rides are inaccessible for those with a disability. They do hire out wheelchairs and pushchairs, but we found this very expensive, so if you do have your own, I advise you to take it along with you.
You can spend a good week end there by staying in one of their hotels.

You are advised to check out their web site before going as some rides are closed at various times of the year.

You are not allowed to take your own food in.

We enjoyed our day there, but felt it hard to navigate the site.

The one thing that surprised us, was, you have to pay €6 for parking, that along with the admission fee we thought was uncalled for.

wow too exciting for me

Fun things to do in Salou…….there’s the theme park, if you like waiting, a lot! There loads of little nice beaches between Salou and Cap Salou, well it’s really one long one with some jutty out rock bits every now and again. Better than the big one, which is a very good beach, but it does tend to get rather busy…..There’s the railway station where you can get a train to Barcelona! Emm you could watch “Only Fools And Horses” 24 hours a day, mmm that sounds like lots of fun. There is a brilliant Elvis impersonator, and a Frank and there’s loads of clubs if you’re a young person of dubious moral value. But best of all there is the freak barmaid in Bar Zeppelin; she’ll make you wait longer than the queue for the best ride ever. Port Aventura beware this bint will take your custom.

Absolutely Fabulous

by TripAdvisor Member Kathleen1

We stayed in Hotel Port Aventura and from the minute we check in until we checked out I have to say the service was first class. Our room was fabulous and we had everything from a tooth pick to a shoe horn and a complimentary mini bar in the room. We also had a great view over the hotel grounds and swimming pool. The food in the restaurant was first class and there was always plenty of it. There was no such thing as having to stand and queue into the restaurant or wait to be served. Each morning in the Pica Pica restaurant the park characters ( Popeye, Woody Woodpecker, Olive Ollie) came to have breakfast with you and we received the daily newspaper to our table. The access to the two parks was excellent and there was something for everyone. I truely felt this was a holiday well worth every penny.

Mostly ok.....

This was our first trip to Mainland Spain & my Step-Kids first time abroad.
We had a fairly hassle free flight from Stansted to Reus, taking approx 2 hours. On arrival to Reus - cases took AGES to come through & considering we were the only plane there at this time, was a little frustrating!
Took the usual coach transfer to the hotel - stopping off at a million others en route. Glad we chose Port Aventura Hotel - looked to be about the nicest out of all the hotels i saw in Salou.
Will break down main points as follows:

ROOMS
Were nice & clean - pleasantly decorated. Thought were a little small for 4 people, however was not a major issue. Floors were not kept very clean by the maids - so constantly had to dust off your feet before getting into bed!!!
Location of the room was great - overlooking the pool on the ground floor (as requested) - so this was a bonus.
The hotels location to the parks is second to none & can not be faulted - also the fact that your room key acts as a fast pass to rides, meaning that you can jump queues - excellent!!

FOOD
Food was ok most days - kids always found something to eat. Was usually just warm & not hot as you would expect. The waiting staff were very rude & did not seem to be bothered with you, unless you were Spanish.
Breakfast was dreadfull - food was never hot & not much choice.

THEME PARK
Found the theme park to be great. Kids loved it & was plenty for us adults to do too! The shows were also worth a look & we had plenty to keep us occupied all day, every day.

WATER PARK
Unfortunately, we had rather mixed weather whilst there - mostly rain - so only got to use the water park on one occassion. The slides are just ok & what made matters worse is that they charge you for the sunbeds - so for the 4 of us, it would have cost €16 - which i find disgusting after you pay all that money to go there in the first place!

ENTERTAINMENT
This was pretty non existant - especially during the day when it was pouring with rain. I think they could have done more to keep the kids occupied in the foul weather.

The hotel flooded on the first night we were there (due to storms) & some rooms had many inches of water in them. I heard people complaining that reception would not move them to new rooms for several days - so were having to live in damp, smelly rooms.

Overall - we had a great time & i would go back again, but only for a couple of nights max. The hotel is geared to the Spaniards & they take priority over the English/German etc - so be prepared to fight your corner!!
It's a pleasant hotel in a fab location - so enjoy !

had a great holiday, everything about this hotel was fab...

ireland....

difficult to fault

by TripAdvisor Member kevandjen

We paid the extra to stay full board and we would recommend this to anyone. The hotel is literally right next to the park and you can come and go as you please without having to carry bags and coats etc round with you. Just leave it all in the room and go back for stuff if you need it. The food was excellent really- different every night, cooked well and as much as you want. Heaps to choose from for breakfact aswell - including a cooked breakfast if you want. The staff were always friendly and helpfull and the characters that walked around made it wonderful for the kids. There was entertainment every evening but not necessarily top standard but it was OK but it all finished at 11 pm. Late enough for us though with a 10 and 11 year old. We stayed at halloween and the hotel themed itself for the occassion which made it all that little bit special too. If we had stayed at a nearby hotel or maybe in Salou and travelled to the park it would have been a big mistake so for the quality and convenience we would recommend going for this hotel. We would certainly go back.

hi, myself, partner and 2 children hoping to go to Port Aventura, Salou and would like advise on where to get best deal on tickets. Probably would only go for a couple of days, rather than needing a 14 day ticket. Are there any deals over there or is it best to buy over net in advance? Thanks Jo

RE: port aventura

by Louie7green

I am going in August and i bought my tickets with my holiday, but i do know that they are £49 for an adult(starting at 10 years) and its only a couple of pounds diffrence from a 3 day to a 7 day ticket.

RE: port aventura

by Sarah172

If you only want to go for the day then you can only do this in resort. But most travel agents can book discoutned priced tickets for you! I kow that afew travel agents are doing 7 days for the price of 3 a brill deal as you can spend as much time as u want in the themepark and dnt have to go every day :) I deal with my tickets through Thomas Cook, Whom deal with Keith Prowse... £48 for 7 days (adult), £38 (child) 7 day tickets...Great vaue for money works out about £6 a day :)

Port Aventura is good - especially the Chinese Magic Show.

However, a cultural must is Tarragona just a few miles away. It is the first city built by the Romans outside Rome and is full of history and good food. The best beach there is Arrabassada and keep an eye ofut for castellers - that is a local tradition of forming human pyramids and is worth seeing!

When are you planning to go? If it's now forget the beach, it's cold and raining here! (it's said maybe snowing...)
Theme park web site: http://www.portaventura.es

Check the timetable before going, I'm not sure if now it's open all the year.

Best regards,

Santi.
